Things I learned from Isaiah Bailey's IG live that I somehow missed three days ago but has me even more excited about his Phantom:
He's reading Leroux and has watched the 1925 adaptation with Lon Chaney.
Homie can sing. Very soft tone though, so I'm interested to hear his Phantom in full voice and how he might utilize that natural softness to do something unique in the role.
He's most looking forward to singing the AIAOY reprise. This was my favorite tidbit, because the obvious answer to the question would've been MOTN. But clearly he likes twisting a knife in himself.
^^ He says he's most excited to sing the rooftop reprise because it's "so beautiful and so full of pain" and he loves to "express music through a lens of pain." Lmfao this was the most Erik thing I've ever heard and I am completely prepared to be wrecked in Baltimore.
He's looking forward to stage dooring.
He insinuated that he auditioned for the tour *and* Masquerade at around the same time and got callbacks for both?
Read on Erik: "He just wants to be loved" but hasn't been able to because of past trauma. "It makes sense why someone would go crazy," because when you find love and you “feel like it's taken away from you," well....apparently you start hanging people. (That last part is not a direct quote lol.) Anyway, he says he looks forward to working through the character's texture and motivations.
Whew.
