Name: Velveto

Relationships w/ cannon characters: - Leona: Wary of him but is beginning to see him as an older brother or father figure. He has fought with only one lion beastman in the ring, but she had only pretended to fight with him. It seemed clear that she was also in the same insufferable life that Velveto was in, and did not want to hurt him. - Jack: wants to like him but often gets defensive out of instinct when he sees wolves. He will tense or get into a combative pose if Jack spooks him, but does calm when he recognizes him. - Ruggie: His closest friend at NRC. He has no past history with hyenas. He is often in a talking mood when Ruggie is around, and will play fight with him sometimes. Is one of the only people he has told his story to - Rook: Calls him “Fleetfoot”, and is fond of him. When Rook was still in Savanaclaw, he was the first to welcome Velveto in. Sees him as an older brother.

Backstory: (TW FOR MENTIONS OF ABUSE AND TORTURE) Velveto, formerly Velveta, was an entertainment hare beastmen for a traveling carnival troupe. He was “adopted” by the ring leader when he was a leveret, and originally only kept in the petting zoo tent. He was taken into the performance tent when he turned nine and began to be put in increasingly more dangerous acts. He was often thrown out into the cold or cut on the bottom of his feet as punishment when he did not preform to the circus’s standards. He had a camera in his cage that was viewable by patrons of the circus during fights he was not in. When he was eleven, the carnival made a stop in Scarabia. Velveto was with another beastman, handing out flyers for upcoming performances to entering guests, when the medicine he had been given to numb the pain of his wounds wore off. He was struggling to walk, but made it back to the staff area. He was laying on his side and holding himself down to chew out the pieces of mulch from the cuts on his feet when two women who had gotten lost spotted him. The women rushed over and tried to get information from Velveto, but he was unable to make coherent sentences. He knew this was his only chance at escaping, so he tried to speak even with his torn throat. He had been hit hard the previous night, and he had already struggled with speech. Thankfully, he was able to get the message across just before his “handler” showed up. He was rescued by the two ladies, and they had given the carnival every dollar they had on them to by him out. He was taken to a nearby clinic and from then on placed in a foster home for beastmen. He received his NRC letter at fifteen, and was placed in the Savanaclaw house. His vocal cords healed as best they could, but still get strained quite quickly. He is selectively mute, but can hold conversations and speak to others as long as he doesn’t feel threatened and has enough time to take breaks between sentences. He has become a good writer as he communicates the best that way, and will write down stories of his past as a way that Rook taught him to heal.

Sorry yall that backstory was terribly written out, it’s like 2AM here as I’m writing this so I’ll probably redo it eventually.

ABOUT ASTANALAN ~

Prince Astanalan, or Asta, is the twin of Malleus. Asta had been completely unexpected when the egg hatched, and was much more frail than the heir of Briar Valley. Malleus and Astanalan were inseparable as young children, but when Asta fell ill at around 120 years old (fae vs human year difference by ten, so he would be 12) he was locked away in his own wing of the castle to be distanced from everyone. While in confinement, he began to write. He also watched the knights train, every time Malleus got to go outside, and every passing of Lilia in and out of the gates. At 160 years of age, long after the affects of his ailment had subsided, he was finally allowed to go to Night Raven College. He would be a year behind his twin, but he saw no problem with that. At least he would see the real world!

He is not as well-acquainted with Silver and Sebek since he never got to socialize, but he considers them his closest friends. He doesn’t understand the complexities of socialization, in a human or fae environment to be honest… His knowledge is slightly behind Malleus’s.
