• he sings with high larynx position and uses mask replacement when singing like most pop singers.
• he was also classically trained in opera for a little bit and passes as a really high tenor as he can hit low notes fine but can't sustain them for too long, or a lower contratenor.
• that said, he doesn't know how to sing above a G4. All of his G#4s are strained, otherwise his control start going whack. That's why he either punches the note quickly or does the growly/distorted rasp thing. (It's a kind of trick a lot of singers do when they can't control a note but can still give a good performance).
• having a functional speech disorder (to be more precise, a lisp) makes enunciating words tricky when singing, so for the first 2 years of his training in JYP, that time was spent just focusing on trying to get him to mimick 's'es, 'th'es and 'z's in a natural way so that it'd be easier to follow with everyone else's singing voice. In the end, he managed to get his singing voice sounding like he never had that lisp in the first place. (And it's needless to say that most other idols are shocked when they hear him talking; they never fail to make Tyke smile or giggle at their expressions).
• he has a great understanding of music and phrasing, and how to connect with a song, which leads to his extra and emotional gestures and expressions. Sometimes he can get a little overboard and even cry when he gets too emotional. (Something Carmen teases him for)
• his voice is light, sweet, clear, and can convey any emotion (or even lack of emotion) very well. Capos describe it as 'a warm blanket that wraps around and hugs you when you hear it'
C𝒜ℛℳℰ𝒩 (🔊: ʲᵉˢˢⁱᶜᵃ ˢᵃⁿᶜʰᵉᶻ ᶠʳᵒᵐ ᵃᵐᵉʳⁱᶜᵃⁿ ⁱᵈᵒˡ)
• she has a lower larynx position when rapping, and just like her brother, she uses mask replacement for when she DOES sing (which for now is a rarity). She carries a non-chalant, unemotional, sort of 'better than you' tone when rapping and does the usual swaggish tone dip like how other rappers do.
• she often switches between normal tone and growling, and reserves it for when things get emotional or serious as it hurts her throat when overused. But when she growls, she gets the job down and drags those verses HARD and the whole room get chills because of the intensity.
• her word enunciation is just fine when compared, but when rapping very quickly she can sometimes skip a syllable or two on a word or you can hear a bit of her spitting and slowly she'll realize this and stop for a second to rewind her mistake and remember what she was going to say next, which isn't too helpful if you're supposed to be the rapper. (She overthinks her raps a lot, oh such a perfectionist)
• she doesn't have her brother's ability to connect with a song at an emotional point, and she doesn't have to, for now, but she makes up for it in the swag and badass vibe. She kindly took a few pointers from other rappers before her like T.O.P and CL, and so people can hear a bit of the YG style in her rapping.
• people often say that her voice sounds like a younger Beyonce if she rapped, as she has a more honeylike quality to her voice that she doesn't often utilize until later in her career. (Mainly because Capos live for the Beyonce sound, which is rather rare for a Korean idol to possess naturally)
