Hi! I’ve recently rebinged the entire House full of Daughters-verse: even better than I remembered it. All the dynamics are so interesting though I’m kind of biased towards Joff - I have so many theories about her and why she and Laenor didn’t get on. Her adopting Daeron as her minion/love interest is so real of her. I was wondering what you use to format your book bindings - I’d like to bind my own copies but the formatting always drives me up the wall.
Thank you!! I love hearing when people reread my work. 🥹
Joff really does have a way of burrowing into people’s hearts, like a deadly parasite (said affectionately).
If you ever care to share your theories, I’m all ears! I can’t confirm or deny anything, but I like to know which clues my readers have sniffed out.
When you say format, I presume you mean what I use to make my typesets for bookbinding. For my very first typeset (my first try at Daemon’s Handbook), I used google docs because it was free. I don’t recommend it: options are pretty limited for creative formatting, and overall it’s a bit clunky for typesetting. However, it’s free to use, which is why I used it when I got started.
After I realized I wanted to continue my bookbinding hobby, I got Affinity Publisher. It’s kinda similar to Adobe, but it’s a one-time purchase instead of a subscription model. Affinity might still offer its 6 month free trial if you want to get a feel for it without spending money yet.
Affinity does have a learning curve, but I used a lot of bookbinding resources to figure it out, and now I love it. I’m never going back to google docs for my typesets. I used Affinity to make the typesets for The Golds and my second attempt at Daemon’s Handbook.
I’m willing to share the typesets I made for Daemon’s Handbook and The Golds, as long as the reader/binder promises to use it for personal use only and won’t be using it in any commercial/monetary exchanges. :)
I also plan to do a bind of Lavender at some point, but I’m so busy that it’s probably going to have to wait until summer at the earliest.
