Petition: Do not ban children from using virtual private networks

We call upon the UK Government to reject any calls or lobbying that propose to restrict or ban the use of virtual private networks ("VPNs")

the UK government implementing age verification on VPNs destroys the privacy and security of all VPN users. It also limits the ability of children to keep themselves safe online; VPNs are primarily a cybersecurity tool, although the UK government seems to have forgotten that. They can help keep people safe by encrypting traffic to make it difficult for hackers to access your online communications. Limiting VPN access will do a lot of damage to the cybersecurity of children and adults.

The UK is planning on implementing it's under 16 social media ban in the next two weeks. We need to be fighting against the government by signing petitions and spreading this information everywhere we can! This is fucking dystopian and it needs to be stopped!!

The id verification stuff feels like...okay, imagine: you've been going to a cafe for years, meet your friends, talk, catch up on community happenings, whatever. And then one day, the goverment decides that all under 18's are banned from visiting cafes. You think "oh that won't affect me, i'm an adult" but when you show up to the cafe that you've gone to for years, there's suddenly this guy on the door demanding to see your id to check that you're old enough to come in. So, you show it to him and he takes a copy of it and puts the copy in his pocket and only then can you go in. He doesn't tell you WHY he took a copy of it, you thought he was just there to check your age.

Meanwhile, those under 18 haven't got a place to go to. They can't hang out with their friends to chat anymore, they can't get the latest info on what's going on in their community outside of the cafe anymore because guess what? the people that organise it, well they put their flyers and talk about it in the cafe, where they can't go.

also you totally shouldnt search up "uk driving licence" because that gives you images of valid licences you can use in place of your own for verification!! this is bad and illegal!!

Oh and btw my heart breaks for those who will choose to no longer be around when this happens, by the way. Those who truly have nothing but the internet. Be it that they are abused in school and/or at home, that that they are disabled and cannot do much aside from being online, anything.
