Worse case scenario is you come face to face with a would be looter, hell bent on getting YOUR stuff.

All your prepping supplies that you have worked hard to collect over the years. He OR she does care about that... You are simply in their way, they are desperate and think they can just wander in, to your home and take what they went. NO WAY HOSAY.....  Along with all my normal prepping I have learned to defend myself using unarmed combat - self defence methods that will take down a looter, mugger or anyone else trying to breach my home.
