A Ditch on a Dirt Road
The smell of beer vomit lingers in the fine hairs of my nose As I desperately try to catch my breath I'm going to suffocate in a ditch on a dirt road It's been dry heaves for the past few moments The kind that seem to reach inside you and pull with each empty retch There's nothing left to come up
Little pebbles dig into my hands and knees I'm each slightly surprised to see blood The grass is tall and wraps me in it's camouflage I can still see the party but no one noticed I was gone No one noticed that I was dying in a ditch on a dirt road I finally get a hard fought gasp of air into my lungs
I collapse to the ground and roll over The dew of night is about to start, and the grass is damp The sky above spins and the stars can't hold there place I close my eyes tightly and fight against the vertigo I don't want to start again
But I know I probably will because this isn't over It never is
The sound of conversation and laughter Plays the melody to the crickets metronome And I try to focus that as I lay here in a ditch on a dirt road My stomach spins again and I gag on foamy yellow spit adding to the already alarming sized puddle next to me
I open my eyes to the sun high above me The party ended hours ago, there's no smoke rising from the fire Nobody found me in a ditch on a dirt road
