Reader Insert: Dad!Bruce Banner & Daughter!Reader
Featuring: Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, Thor, Clint Barton, Natasha Romanoff.
Request: “Can you write something cute with single dad Bruce Banner where the reader (his daughter) is getting married and is like the honorary niece of Tony, Steve, Clint, and Thor, and Bruce, Tony, Steve, Clint, and Thor give speeches and take turns dancing with her at the wedding? It takes place between the events of The Avengers and Age of Ultron.” -Anon
Summary: It’s the day of her father’s wedding and Reader is less than thrilled about it. She’s worried that with the addition of her her stepmother, she’ll lose the rest of her found family, including her four favorite uncles.
Author’s Note: might do a part 2 on this one, I really liked the idea and it started to run away on me.
I could just stay up here. You thought to yourself. No one would notice me missing. Especially not today. You looked at yourself in your bedroom mirror. You supposed you looked alright. They’d hired someone to do your hair and some light make-up so that you’d fit in with the rest of the wedding party. Your plum colored Junior Bridesmaid dress was actually pretty comfortable, and it had pockets. Still you wish you didn’t have to wear it.
You crossed the room to look out the window. It overlooked the backyard where the ceremony would be held in less than an hour. You couldn’t believe the wedding coordinator had been able to pull off a plum and chartreuse color scheme. You’d laughed when she had suggested such ridiculous colors. But Dad had loved it, so that meant you had to too. Team Banner had to stick together. That’s what he’d always told you.
It didn’t feel much like sticking together when he decided to change the roster without your permission. For as far back as you could remember it had been just you and your dad, Bruce Banner. Team Banner was small, but efficient. The Hulk showed up a few years ago, when you were around five. It really tore your dad up, he worried about hurting you all the time. So, you were always on your best behavior and tried to avoid making him upset whenever possible. Things got easier three years ago when your Dad met the Avengers.
You were twelve then, the only kid running around with the team. Since Dad was a single parent that meant you got dragged to SHIELD HQ a lot for meetings and events. You tried to keep yourself busy by reading books or playing handheld games. You wanted to make things as easy on Dad as possible. Eventually you got to know the team and they’d offer to watch you any time Bruce needed it.
Sometimes it was something small like taking you out for ice cream while Dad worked in the lab or helping you with your homework by explaining long division just one more time. Other times it was letting you stay over for the weekend while he was away on a mission. They weren’t blood relatives, but they were family. You weren’t ready for all of that to just disappear. There was a knock on the door. You moved away from the window and sighed. Here we go.
“I was beginning to worry my date was standing me up!” Steve Rogers commented when you opened the door.
“Sorry Uncle Steve. I didn’t mean to keep you waiting.” You apologized.
“I get it.” Steve nodded. “A lot’s going to change after today. It’s okay if you need to take a minute.”
“Dad needs everything to run smoothly.” You told him. “I promised him we wouldn’t be late.”
“Then we’d better get a move on.” Uncle Steve offered you his elbow and you walked downstairs together. He led you into the kitchen where your Dad, Tony Stark, Thor and Clint Barton where waiting.
They were all practically talking over each other when you and Steve entered the room. Uncle Tony’s tie was still undone, though he’d at least tossed the piece of fabric over his neck. Thor wasn’t wearing a tie, or his jacket and his sleeves were rolled up past his elbows. Only Uncle Clint seemed to be fully dressed for the occasion. His shoes were shined, his tie tied and his jacket fastened at the waist.
“Does this look crooked to you?” Your dad asked Clint. He tugged nervously at his own tie.
“Young Lady Banner!” Thor was the first to notice you. He greeted you with his booming voice before encircling you in his arms. “You look beautiful [Y/N]!” He appraised when he released his hold on you. “You shall make a fine bride yourself, soon!”
“Thor, she’s fifteen!” Clint commented as he straightened your father’s tie. "Give her at least another year before you try to trade our girl off for some goats.”
“Barton our [Y/N] is worth far more than a few puny goats!” Thor huffed.
“You’re both out of your mind.” Uncle Tony laughed. “[Y/N] and I already agreed that she’s never getting married. She’s dedicating her life to science and the pursuit of knowledge.”
“I don’t remember ever agreeing to this…” You disagreed.
“Well you did.” He assured you. “You were seven at the time, but I haven’t forgotten.”
“Tony the ceremony is supposed to start in fifteen minutes. Do you need help with your tie?” Uncle Steve offered, diverting the attention away from you.
“Well, how do I look?” Dad asked you. You thought about telling him that he looked awful and that everything looked awful, but that wouldn’t stop the day from happening. It would only hurt his feelings.
“Handsome as ever.” You told him. Tony swatted Steve’s hand away and began tying his tie. Steve and Clint both turned their attention to Thor, who seemed adamant that a jacket was not necessary. While everyone else was distracted your dad moved to stand beside you.
“So the big day is finally here.” He said.
“Yup.” You nodded, still watching Clint and Steve struggle with Thor.
“I just wanted to say thank you, for being so good about everything.” He commented. You looked away from the show in front of you and up at your dad. “Things have never been easy for us, but I know it’s been really hard the last few months. I was away on that month-long mission, then all the wedding planning stuff was taking up a lot of time…” He paused to sigh.
“It’s okay, Dad.” You touched his arm, trying to assure him. “You’ve always been there when it was important. This was just an adjustment period. It was temporary.”
“Sometimes I feel like you’re the parent and I’m the kid.” He laughed. “I wanted to get you something anyway. Just something small to say thanks for hanging in there with me.” From his suit jacket pocket, he removed a small purple velvet box. He handed it to you. “Go on, open it.”
You accepted the small box and opened it. Inside was a necklace. The chain was silver, and the pendant was a series of small amethysts set in a silver crescent moon. It was beautiful. With his help you put the necklace on immediately.
“You like it then?” He asked worriedly.
“I love it, Dad!” You promised before hugging him.
“I’m glad.” He hugged you back. “I’m sorry we have to leave you to stay with Uncle Tony for two weeks while Betty and I are on our honeymoon, but the good news is once we’re back, we’ll be able to spend lots of time together and you’ll get a well-deserved break from your uncles.”
You wanted to tell him that you didn’t want a break from your uncles. That over the years you’d grown used to the sort of organized chaos they seemed to always bring with them. Sure, they were rowdy, and a little unpolished, but they loved you and you loved them. You didn’t want the fact that your dad was married to impact your ability to be with the rest of your family.
“You boys ready to get this show on the road?” Everyone looked upwards to see Natasha Romanoff calling down impatiently from a nearby staircase. She sauntered down the stairs and was followed by two more Bridesmaids; Betty’s sister and her childhood best friend.
“Why the long face, Lil’ Banner?” An hour had passed since your father was officially married. They were now legally Dr. Bruce and Mrs. Betty Banner.
The happy couple sat at a small table for two surrounded by everyone else. All the other tables were large and round, seating no more than eight people per table. You were of course seated at the wedding party table. The seating arrangement of which had been carefully charted by Betty and the Wedding Planner. As Best Man and Maid of Honor, Uncle Tony and Betty’s sister sat together. Betty’s best friend and Uncle Thor were next to them. Followed by Aunt Nat and Uncle Clint. You were sat between Uncle Steve and Uncle Tony. It was the latter, who had leaned over to ask you what was wrong.
“No reason.” You lied. You continued to push potatoes around in your soup.
“C’mon, you think I can’t tell when you’re upset? You may have fooled your old man, but not me. Your Uncle Tony wrote the book on pent up teenage aggression.” He told you. “Are you upset about having to stay with me for two weeks?”
“No, that’s not it!” You assured him. “I love the tower and I love hanging out with you! You’re the only one who lets me have dessert for dinner.” You glared down at your soup, even less hungry than you were before. “Now that dad’s married, I won’t be around the tower as much.”
“Why not?” Tony asked. “Your dad getting married doesn’t mean that things have to change between us.”
“But it’s going to.” You huffed. “He already told me I’ll be spending less time with you guys and more time with Betty.”
“Did you tell him how you feel?” Tony asked.
“No. Team Banner has to stick together.” You mumbled. “I don’t want him to think I just don’t like her.” Tony looked like wanted to say more, but the wedding planner had come over and handed him a microphone to let him know it was time for his speech.
“Be right back.” He told you with a pat on the shoulder.
“Big surprise, there’s a party and I’ve got a microphone!” Was the first thing Tony said to the crowd. This of course earned a supportive laugh from everyone. “But for once, this speech is not about me. Today, we not just celebrating the marriage of Bruce and Betty. Today we also celebrate the joining of two families. As many of you know, Betty’s parents and sister are here, even her great grandmother was able to make the trip. Some of you may even recognize Bruce’s daughter, [Y/N].” You looked up at the mention of your name and gave an awkward half-wave to the other guests.
“But what you may not know,” Tony turned to look at Betty. “Is that you’re also gaining another sister and four brothers. Because they Avengers are a family too. We argue like families do, but we have each other’s backs like family too. There’s been plenty of family dinners around the long meeting table at the tower. Uncle Clint taught [Y/N] how to ride a bike, and she taught Uncle Steve how to send GIFs on his cellphone.” Tony paused for laugher, which the crowd easily offered up. “So let’s all raise a glass, and let me be the first to say, ‘Welcome to the family Betty’!”
The meal continued while Betty’s sister gave the next speech. Then your Dad and Betty each said a few words and before you knew it, they were doing their first dance. Waiters were clearing the dishes from tables while the DJ invited everyone else to join the newlyweds on the dance floor.
“I know you might not be feeling up to it, but you’d be doing me a great favor if you joined me in a dance.” Steve told you as he offered your hand out. “Can’t have people thinking that even my own date wont dance with me.” He smirked.
“You care too much about what other people think of you, Uncle Steve.” You told him, before accepting his hand and letting him lead you to the dance floor.
“You know, I heard what you were saying to Uncle Tony earlier.” He told you. “You should spend some time with Betty and give her a chance to get to know you. I’m sure that’s what your father meant by what he said. And making room for her in your life doesn’t mean you’re losing any of us. Who else would I get to watch movies with me on Saturday nights? Which reminds me, we’re still on to watch Jaws tonight when your dad drops you off at the tower right?”
Summary: They always told her a few key things; Humans are not loving, And Humans are not divine. Midgard is not safe, And Midgard is not kind. Earth is not good, And Earth is not pure. Terra is not clean, And Terra is not secure. The unspoken truths of humanity. Maybe it was high time she believed them.

This was it. She had survived twelve years in the court of Asgard among sharp eyes, silver tongues and vicious smiles. She had survived a year on the run with a rogue magic wielder under the threat of age-long imprisonment. She had survived five years in a vengeful universe where loss was life. But this was it.
Laying under a mountain of debris, a weight heavier than the knowledge that an army waited so far above. Y/N’s breath came slow and steady as she lay there, defeated. She had fought until her nails cracked and bled. She had been fighting since the moment she opened her eyes. They had all fought and they had won. So why did it feel like they were losing?
A shattering sound brought her attention to the collapsed support pillar pressed to her side. Something was bubbling over it, creeping slowly down the side and onto her face. Water.
The liquid spluttered between the cracked debris around her. Panic rose within her as she tried to keep her gaze on the starlit sky above. Staring at the quickly rising water would only bring her further into despair. So, she kept her eyes on those far away cosmos as she set her mind loose within itself. Her thoughts raced passed, searching for a plan or an ounce of energy to summon forth.
But that liquid was rising so very fast and much of her power had been sapped during the blast. The hasty magical shields she’d thrown around the Avenger’s hadn’t exactly been her best work. Frigga would have scolded her for being so careless, spells of that size took time to put into place properly – time she had not had, so she had instead paid with copious amounts of energy.
“Oh Gods,” Y/N whimpered, water spluttering from where it had begun to cover her face. “Help! Oh, Gods. Oh, Gods. Help! Please! Дядя(----)! Anyone!”
Something crackled behind her head, a muffled voice emitting from it. Her com. It had slipped out of her ear when her helmet had been ripped off in the blast. If she could just get her hands on it, she could call for help. Or she could grasp the vial around her neck – where she had stored power for times just like these. If she could just free her hands…
Y/N cried out; part of the building that pressed against her chest shuddered. It groaned at her movement and for a tense moment, she thought the entire thing was about to collapse on her. Another shuddering sob tore from her throat.
She had survived everything, only to die here while the last of her family was slaughtered by their greatest foe. Loki and Natasha had fought to give her a life that she could truly love. And here she was, a mess under the weight of the world.
Had her parents ever faltered? Had they ever wondered what it would feel like to just exhale and let that weight crush them? When Loki had been fighting to be a worthy king or lying through his teeth to a mad titan, had he wondered why? Why fight? When Natasha had been forced to fight her family or watch them turn to dust around her, had she wondered why? Why get back up?
Maybe. Perhaps just for a moment but… Natasha had gotten back up, she had flipped onto her feet, brushed bloodied knuckles against tattered clothes and stood her ground. Loki had kept fighting, he had summoned his daggers, gave a blood-stained grin and leapt willingly into the abyss without a fear in the world. So, she would too.
Eyes set on the heavens she summoned energy that should not have been there. She tore through the exhaustion, sending adrenaline coursing through her veins. With a final cry of defiance, she shoved, undiluted Elemental power mixed with sheer force of will. The ground around her quaked and then – eyes shining bright gold – she threw the building off of herself.
She threw herself into the air summoning the mystic force beneath her feet. For a moment she stopped and stared hovering over the ruins of her home, looking out across the vast army before her. Demonic foot soldiers crawling with their backward limbs, leviathans swimming toward her, beasts staggering across the shattered remains of the facility.
And then her eyes turned upon the lone man staring it all down. She watched unnoticed as great portals of brilliant gold sprung to life, as men and women marched through. As warriors gathered behind their leaders. She watched as Avengers rallied to do what they did best; to be the heroes that the world needed.
“Yibame-be!” The cry echoed from one portal in particular. It rolled over the others; a rallying song louder than any other Y/N had ever heard. But then the voices faded, and another took up its own call.
“For Loki!” The rough voice of the God of Thunder yelled from wherever he had staggered up from. He already looked brutalized, a smear of blood coating his breastplate and hair.
Y/N didn’t hesitate as she gave her own voice to the chant, “For Natasha!”
A defiant yell that exceeded even the cries of Wakanda’s people, carried to the opposing army. With a few quick bounds on her Vaulting Boots, Y/N found herself among her people. Asgardians who had been dragged down just as many times as her, stood ready. Thor landed heavily beside the girl, nodding once to his people and the valiant Valkyrie that lead the charge.
Raising vanishing daggers, magic axes, swords of every build and makeshift weapons they gave another defiant roar, “FOR ASGARD!”
Y/N watched in awe as they rallied around her, as they cried their furious defiance to the heavens. The ruins behind them crumbled as Scott freed Banner, Rocket, and Rhodey from under the facility. A hush unfolded across them as Steve raised his shattered shield.
“Avengers!” They held their breath as their Captain gave their foe a final moment to simply look upon them. To see the men and women they had angered, the heroes they had unknowingly created, the vengeance they had summoned. Captain America let Thanos and his armies look upon the Avengers as he spoke the word, they had all waited to hear for five long years, “Assemble.”
Tony working on something when he hears someone say "math tutor" and he whips around, stars in his eyes. "Did someone say MATH?!" "It's just pre-algebra," his nephew says awkwardly. "I think you mean the BEST ALGEBRA!" By the time Tony's finished helping him figure out pre-algebra, his nephew actually understands math and is excited to go to class. Tony has this way about him to make learning fun even when you're confused. (Honestly a guy that blows himself up that often needs that.)
To Tony everything is the best math so he might not be very representative, but yes.
His nephew is so incredibly ashamed that he doesn’t understand something Tony is a genius about and he is aboslutely not comfortable with asking him for help.
But now Tony heard about his problems and he is already right there, obviously excited about this whole thing, but not mean about it in any way.
Tony is just so enthusiastic about it that it’s really hard to hate math, and to everyone’s surprise he is also very good at explaining stuff.
He uses a very visual way of explaing, using lots of examples, and making it so very easy to get it.
Word about this makes the round with all of the kids (all his nieces and nephews and probably also on the day care floor) and soon he is holding whole classes.
Tony enjoyes it, the kids enjoy it and actually learn and like to learn, in math and physics and chemistery. Tony brushed up on that just for these classes.
Whenever the kids get good grades he is more excited about this than the parents themselves, and when they get bad grades, he doesn’t get all disappointed, he just tries to figure out where the problem is and how he can help.
A lot of the kids discover their love for science like this and decide to pursuit a degree in math or engineering or something like this.
And then imagine, because reioka and I talked about this already, one day one of the kids Tony teached all about math comes back to him to show him their degree in art or philosophy or something.
They are terribly nervous, because they fear that Tony might be disappointed or something. But Tony is so incredibly proud and he makes a copy of the degree just to keep it forever, and let’s go with the art thing here, because Tony so definitely decides that all art must go into the tower.
He buys it off the kid, and keeps some on his personal floors but he also displays a lot of the pieces on the work floors where everyone can see them.
He most likely hooks the kid up with some connections, not buying them in but just gently pointing the right people into the kid’s direction, and when they have their first exhibition Tony is all over everyone, telling them all that he was the first to hang up their art, and he tutored that kid, did you see how amazing their work is, Tony is sure there has never been anything better.
Tony is proud of all of his kids, no matter what career they choose and he always remembers what any of them are doing career wise. He feels like the proudest dad ever.

It was the third day in a row that you'd woken up this early. It wasn’t like you wanted to wake up every day at 3 in the morning, but your mind wouldn't stop shuffling through plans and ideas and you had to get to work or you'd sit there the whole night without a wink of sleep. Turning over in bed, the sheets now draping off the side onto the floor, your eyes groggily attempted to focus on the clock on your bedside table, that read 3:29. Considering you had only finished drawing up recent plans 2 hours before, this was the most sleep you’d gotten all week. Deciding you weren't sleepy enough to fall back asleep, you quietly made your way over to your desk, turning the lamp on quickly. Grabbing your bound notebook, filled with formulas and plans, and your glasses, you slowly opened the door to your room, padding softly down to the lab. Although you had entered quietly, the tower’s AI could obviously sense you. F.R.I.D.A.Y. greeted you loudly as you entered the room,
“Hello, Miss Stark.”
Putting on your glasses, you shushed her quickly.
“Quiet down F.R.I.D.A.Y., it’s late.”
“Actually Miss, it’s early.” she retorted, now at a lower volume.
Nodding your head with a smirk, you moved around the tables with your notebook, settling yourself at your usual perch. Situating your materials and pulling up the schematics you had been working on, you started your work, not focusing on anything else. Losing yourself in your work so much that it took Tony raising his voice, not to mention several hours later, to get your attention.
“Y/N! Hello? Earth to Y/N!” he shouted at you, holding a cup of coffee.
Startled and not at all having paid attention to the room, you realized that Bruce was also in the lab working.
“O-oh sorry. What’s up Tony?” you replied a little shaken, looking back to your work and accepting the cup of coffee from him.
“I went to wake you up this morning for breakfast, and you weren't in bed again,” he stated, acting like an overprotective dad. “What time did you go to bed?” he asked, squinting at you and taking a few steps closer.
“Uhh, I’m not exactly sure, so this might be like a rough esti-“
“What time Y/N?” he interrupted your rambling.
“Around 1 o’clock. I came down here at around 3:30,” you grumbled.
Shaking his head, he came closer to you, grabbing your shoulders and turning you to face him. You looked at your feet to avoid his piercing gaze, feeling bad for making him worry. Placing his fingers gingerly under your chin and tilting it up to his face, he made you look at him.
“Listen kid, I’m only looking out for you. You need to sleep.” He stated quietly.
Breaking from his hold, you turned to your notes and work, retorting to his claims.
“I understand, but I just can’t. There’s so much information running through my head and I have to work.” you sighed, turning around to face him again.
“Ok, well how about this then. Take a quick break. You go upstairs to the med bay and patch up the guys who came back from a mission and I’ll take a look at this. How does that sound?” he offered.
Nodding your head in agreement to his proposal, you made your way upstairs.
I just binge read your work! What about Little Peter having been so inspired by visiting his Uncle Tony at the dentist he tells everyone he wants to be one and practices with daddies?
ahhh i hope you had a fun time reading🥰🥰 and i hope you like this too although im so late to answering👉🏻👈🏻
part one - part two
Daddies Steve and Bucky, +18 Little Peter, Uncle Tony, Tony is a dentist, dental clinics, fluff
“Daddy, can we go see Uncle Tony at his work?”
“Baby, really?”
“Hmm! It was fun. I wanna see ‘im again.”
“He’s coming over on Saturday for dinner, so you can play then.”
“No! Wanna go to his work.”
Who on Earth would have thought Peter would want to go to the dentist willingly? Demand it even?
And yet, there Peter is demanding that they go see Tony at his work.
“Okay, okay. I send him a text and ask, but Uncle Tony’s working so don’t make a fuss if he says no. Okay?”
“Hmm, promise!”
God bless Tony’s heart, because half an hour after Steve sent his text, he got a reply from Tony saying they could come over at closing time.
Peter was over the moon, and rushed to his room to find a cool outfit to show off to his Uncle. He ended up with some dungareens with a rainbow patch on the front pocket, and a light blue long sleeved shirt. He even got to wear his light up shoes, and shoved his Crocodile Dentist game and his tiger stuffie into his Pikachu backpack. After a quick snack, Steve and Peter were off.
When they arrived at the clinic, the nurse at the reception was still working and tapping away on the keyboard. Steve barely had time to explain to the nurse why they were at the clinic before Peter wandered off.
“Hey, buddy. You can’t go there.”
But, Peter wasn’t listening. He headed down the hall past the reception, and then ran inside a room with a squeal. Steve quickly followed after apologising to the nurse. Even if they were invited, this was still a workplace.
Turned out that Steve was worrying needlessly. In the room where Peter had disappeared into, Steve found his little boy on Tony’s lap while the dentist was sat on his stool. The two were facing one another, and Tony had his fingers intertwined where he held around Peter’s back.
“Hi! How are you, Steve?” Tony asked brightly.
“Hi, hi. I had a little scare when he ran off. I didn’t mean for him to barge in.” Steve apologised. Peter gave him a look for bad mouthing him.
“Oh, that’s all right. The last patient left half an hour ago.”
“Did ya fix their teeth? Did ya use the drill?” Peter asked, bouncing on Tony’s lap.
“Yeah, I did actually. Have you been researching about dentistry?”
“What’s that?”
“Dentistry? It’s what I do. Dentists practice dentistry. Fixing and taking care of teeth.” Tony explained, using his thumbs to lift up Peter’s upper lip to show his canines. The boy giggled and shook his head to get away. “Have you been reading about teeth?”
“Hmm! Daddies helped, and- and I’ve been taking care of Croco’s teeth. Look.” Peter said eagerly, hopping down from Tony’s lap to get his backpack.
The two caregivers watched with gentle smiles as the boy hurried to get his backpack off his back, and then get his Crocodile Dentist game out. The boy turned with a proud grin to show the game in his hands.
“Look! It works like this.” Peter announced, showing his Uncle how the game worked.
“Oh, that’s awesome! Do you have tools that come along with it?” Tony asked.
“Yeah! Here.”
“Or would you rather use real ones?” Tony suggested. Peter gasped loudly in response, making both Tony and Steve chuckle fondly.
“I’m a real dentist, Daddy!”
After half an hour of playing the Crocodile game, with real dental tools and gloves and a mask, Peter started rubbing at his eyes with a yawn. Steve could tell that it was time for them to go, and not bother Tony any longer. The man had had a long day of work already.
“I’m sorry for taking up your time. Peter had a lot of fun though.” Steve said, packing away Peter’s toys for him while the boy hugged Tony.
“It was my pleasure really. I mean, I adore this little guy.” Tony gushed, squeezing Peter a little tighter in his arms where he was crouched down to hug him. Peter giggled tiredly in return.
“You’ll come on Saturday, right?” Peter asked when the two separated from the hug. He looked at his Uncle with a serious look.
“Of course. I’ll be there at 5, like we agreed.” Tony replied, nodding towards Steve. “We’ll play more then.”
Peter seemed pleased with that, and toddled over to his Daddy with his arms held up. Steve picked him up with a fond groan, and then picked up the Pikachu backpack too.
“Say bye-bye now, and thank you to Uncle Tony.” Steve instructed the boy.
“Buh-bye and thank you!” Peter said dutifully, blushing a light pink.
“Bye bye, handsome. I’ll see you on Saturday!”
And with that, Steve and Peter were off.
Tony would have to sterilise the tools he let Peter use before he could go home, but it was worth the trouble to see Peter light up with glee over being a ’real’ dentist.
Maybe late to the party on this or you might have answered it but are you going to make a part 2 to the StuckyXPeter prompt where Tony is a dentist? I think it’s a super cute medfet idea! Love your work btw!
part one
Daddies Steve and Bucky, +18 Little Peter, Littles are Known, Uncle Tony, dental appointments, nerves, whump, emotional comfort
Peter was definitely not thrilled when his Daddies Steve and Bucky let him know one Tuesday morning that instead of going to daycare like normal, they would be going to the dentist. Actually, the boy was mildly furious, and stomped around for half an hour before he got tired of being angry and became nervous instead. He decided then that he would rather have his Daddies close rather than far away.
The first sign that something was up was when they did not go to the same dental clinic as last time. This was a new clinic, and although it had prettier decorations and better toys in the waiting room, Peter was not entirely convinced. He had a soft pout on his face the whole time until his Daddies called his name saying it was time to go in.
The second sign was that out of all people, his Uncle, Tony, was stood by the door leading into the clinic while wearing scrubs. The boy was dumbfounded and his mouth fell open in a quiet gasp of betrayal. The boy couldn’t quite pinpoint why he felt so betrayal, or who specifically had betrayed him. But, he felt betrayed for sure.
“It’s your Uncle Tony, baby. Aren’t you gonna say hi?” Steve encourages.
“Hi, Peter. It’s me!” Tony greets brightly, crouching down and opening his arms for a hug like always. But, Peter is still caught off guard and Bucky comes forward to pick him up from the play corner.
“He’s in shock it seems.” Bucky chuckles and cuddles Peter close to sooth him. The boy is a bit stiff, but leans into Bucky. However, his eyes are locked on Tony.
“What are you doing here?” Peter finally asks, making the grown ups laugh.
“I work as a dentist, remember? This is my work place, and your Daddies thought it might be cool if I did your dental check this year.” Tony explains. Peter turns to both his Daddies to check if his Uncle is right. Both Daddies nod at him.
“Didn’ know it was gonna be you…” Peter mumbles, looking a bit embarrassed now. He fiddles with Bucky’s shirt before squirming down from his arms. The boy toddles over to his Uncle with his eyes cast down, but with his arms up, suggesting he wants a hug.
“Oh, sweet boy! That’s my Petey.” Tony coos when Peter embraces him. The dentist hugs Peter close and then picks him up into his arms. “Oh, I missed you! I’m so excited to have you here at my work. I think we’ll have some fun, yeah?”
Even if Peter is still a bit sceptical, he decides to nod at his Uncle’s question. He trusts his favourite Uncle after all.
The dental room is decorated with the same themes as the waiting room. After entering, Tony lets Peter see the whole room and points to the different things like the lamp, the cupboards with supplies and the dental chair. Tony also shows him the TV screen attached to the roof. It is currently showing underwater footage of sea turtles.
“Do you like it?” Tony asks.
“Hmm! It’s like at Sea World.” Peter says. The boy is so transfixed by the turtles that he barely notices his Uncle setting him down in the dental chair nor that he places a protective cover on his chest. Daddies settle into the two chairs along the wall next to the big dental chair.
“Right! You were at Sea World with your Daddies last summer. What was your favourite again?” Tony asks, lowering the dental chair so that he can easily access Peter’s mouth.
“The little sharks!” Peter giggles, barring his teeth at his Uncle who looks down at him from above.
“Yes! The ones with the little teeth. Can you show me yours then? See if they are as sharp as the shark’s teeth?” Tony asks, grabbing a face mask and some gloves.
Peter flinches a bit in the chair at the sound of the latex gloves snapping as if he only now realised what is going on. The boy looks at his Daddies, but is quickly calmed down by their easy going smiles. When Peter looks up again, he can only see his Uncle’s dark brown eyes.
“It’s still just me, Petey. I’m wearing a mask to protect both of us, all right? Now, can you open wide for me? Show me your pearly whites?”
Peter hesitates for a bit, but then he feels a hand squeeze his thigh comfortingly. The boy opens his mouth, and fixes his gaze on the footage of the sea turtles above.
“Good boy. Now, I’ll just scrape around a bit and check out your teeth. If you hear a loud scraping sound, that’s just me, okay? You’ll be just fine. I won’t hurt you.”
Peter makes a vague noise in acknowledgement in return, since he cannot form any words with his mouth wide open. He is a bit scared still, and he’d much rather be looking at sharks than sea turtles. And even if Uncle Tony’s hands are gloved, they still feel comforting on his face.
“Good boy, good boy. You’re doing wonderful. I think you can pick out two toys from the basket outside after. Don’t tell anyone I said that, okay? It’s our little secret since you’re my favourite Little.”
Maybe having an Uncle who’s a dentist isn’t so bad.
