I am horrified at the amount of half-finished quilts I found in the back of my closet. I am such a liar when I say I am bored and have nothing to work on.

The Shame, part 2:

A complexly cabled sweater I said I'd finish for an old lady (my mom's friend's mother-in-law) when she moved to a care home and could no longer knit. I did a big swatch & matched her gauge, & started to work on a sleeve, and then she died. She died before I finished her sweater, y'all, that's how bad my procrastination failed us all.

In my defense, she was 94 to begin with. Her family said they'd like to have the sweater as a keepsake, and she'd done like 70% of it anyway, so I will be finishing it. Now there's no "deadline", though, and I haven't worked on it in a while.

On the left, a sweater I was unravelling for the yarn (Fishermen's Wool) and didn't finish, plus more unidentified scraps & balls.

On the right, an unfinished shawl that I'll probably frog bc it's acrylic anyway & I'd rather have those needles back for something else. Or I could finish it; idk. A fingerless glove that I lost the mate to, years ago, but I liked them so much I still think I might remake it one day. And a bag of very fine, very tangled wool yarn (Haapsalu) that was broken in several places, & I need to finish winding it into little balls.

Right: One of several fleeces I need to finish sorting, washing, carding, spinning. One is already mostly clean, in the folded-up drying rack. Another is partially spun. I think there's two still in the closet, untouched.

Day 5/100

Create something.

Today I had my stent removed. I acquired components to finish a project older than most of my followers.

Bottom 2 pictures are previous days work. I will try to remember to post this here as well as mewe/failbook.

Today I cut the remaining decals for my moms hearts. And tore out the incorrect pink and worked on redoing the correct colors.

This project was started when I was still in high school.

My one resolution was to clear a backlog of unfinished objects that I still had.

There are 5 cross stitch objects I started in the early 90s. This year I'll finish them.

I also started a new audiobook and have finished almost half.

This project is nearly 30 years old.

I haven’t had the brain power for fussy cutting and I haven’t had the time or energy to pull out my machine, so it has been a lot of sewing random hexis together lately. A good mindless project.

I feel stalled out on the ballerinas blooming quilt, and I really want to start something new, maybe with 30s reproduction fabric or maybe something with Liberty of London fabric, but I need to finish some things before I buy more fabric.

Ballerinas Blooming EPP quilt

Hexi scrap EPP quilt

Back up baby blanket quilt, using the 8 at a time technique for making half square triangles.

Masks that are cut out or partially sewn

A cotton dress with a mostly done bodice

A flannel nightgown that has been cut out

I have the material to do the following things, but haven’t started them:

Re-bind the quilt my great grandmother made for me when I was a little girl.

Make a long sleeved jersey maxy dress

Make a green and purple baby quilt

Make a country blue scrap quilt (even if the hexi quilt ends up king I size I have inherited so much country blue fabric, it could be its own quilt).

Maybe I could get new epp papers and start something with the country blue fabric? It would be a new project without buying any new fabric.

Crafty Tuesday UFOs on the Horizon

April 28, 2020 Tuesday Day 44 of the Homebound Saga

UFOs for crafts people stands for Unfinished Objects. They are projects that got to a point and then move off the table for something else. There are a variety of reasons a project becomes a UFO. Most of mine are pieces that were part of something else and time ran out so they got punted to later.

Now that I have time, I put together a couple of those projects to finish up.

(For the VI: This is a pile of puppets in various stages of being finished. From left to right a piece of red cloth I use for mouths on the puppets, A pink fabric head, body, arm, A blue head from a failed experiment, A black and white shaggy puppet, a blue puppet which was the beginnings of Abe Sapiens for a sketch that I didn’t need him for in the end, green body for a puppet for me, the wooden skeleton of a rod puppet, fabric for a coat and hat for the green puppet.)

I also want to build three more bodies for some other puppets that I have in my head along with some cool fur for furrpets.

I think I am going to start with the green puppet and work from there.

I know I have a box with a number of other UFOs but I am starting with these and then working forward.

I am grateful for the skills I have learned to allow me to finish my UFOs.

So this one is different.

I had started this one in 1993 as well, and well, it was started on 28ct fabric and aim old, uninsured and I no longer have 16 year old eyes. Sooo. This is getting started from scratch as a project.
