So I just read in your blog you’re starting uni at 30 and you made me feel less alone, I’m 24 and I don’t even know when I will be able to start but I’ve been feeling anxious about it , so I hope u can share some of your experiences, and I wish you the best ☺️

Awww, thank you so much Nonnie! I know it’s hard but try not to stress about what you want to do, when you’re going to do it, etc. You’re so young and have so much time ahead of you. I once had a social worker who went back to Uni in her fifties to get her social work degree :) And honestly, I’m turning 30 this June but I FINALLY feel like my life is really beginning.

I actually got accepted into Uni a couple of years ago too to do a Nursing degree but then turned down the offer as it just didn’t feel right and I knew it wasn’t really what I wanted to do and I was just doing it for the sake of going to Uni. Now I’ve had some more time I am 100% confident that my chosen degree and study area (Genetics and Neuroscience) are 10000% what I want to do and I have full confidence that I will enjoy it and I haven’t felt that way about any other degree choices before. 

Now, having said that, I don’t know what part of the world you live in or really anything about you, but I just want you to know that unless it’s what you really really want, you don’t HAVE to go to Uni. I know that society makes you think that you do, makes you think that you have to go get a degree straight out of school, get married, have 2.5 kids and all that jazz but that’s absolute bullshit. 

I’m about to start Uni at 30, last year I left a toxic marriage that I stayed in for seven years because society told me that I should stay and make it work even if I was unhappy. I had my tubes tied at 26 because I was so grossed out about the prospect of having kids with my ex husband and I got a lot of shit for that. Now my current partner and I are planning to get them untied or do IVF to have children when I finish my degree. By the time we have children I’ll be about 36 and he’ll be about 33. 

I haven’t done anything in my life by the ‘accepted’ timeline and I likely never will. It’s okay to do things if and when you feel ready. It’s okay to change your mind. It’s okay to do absolutely what you want to do in life that will make you happy and help you feel fulfilled. You do you and fuck everyone else.
