What should have happened to American K-12 education as a result of the pandemic:

Better pay and working conditions for teachers as we saw how essential they are not just to education but to the ecosystem of the American workplace

Removing the stigma of being held back a grade and the end of social promotion being the default, since too many students missed too much learning to simply continue as if nothing happened

A tiny Federal tax on the businesses that made obscene profits during lockdown, which could have easily funded grants for summer programs to help kids catch up on what they missed

Instead we got, "Oh, well, I guess a lot more of our young people will graduate from high school functionally illiterate with unaddressed behavioral and emotional issues. Sucks to be them, I guess."

Good morning! Americans do not celebrate Labor Day on May 1st. It was moved by the government to distance the day from the actual labor movement that birthed it.

After the Haymarket Incident, the bomber(s) were not confirmed, but those in proximity to the labor protest—organizers, outspoken members—were executed for it.

1 cop was killed by the bombing, then the police opened fire into the crowd. As a result of the skirmish, 6 more cops were killed and so were 4 protesters.

The US government was already deeply deeply anti-labor and anti-union, blaming any movement on communist interference, and were looking for an excuse to condemn the movement.

Everything we have with regards to worker protections, not working weekends, the 5 day work week, we owe to the labor movement.

is it okay for me, as an American, to say that I don't care if the US goes up in smoke bc of the rich & corporations? like I just hate how a lot of Americans are so willfully stupid and spiteful. it's one of the many reasons why I think universal healthcare, free education, worker's rights will never get passed here; Americans don't want certain Americans (race, sexuality, gender, class) they hate getting those benefits.

I don't see it getting better, even tho Luigi has made some people look at our evil health insurance companies, it's not enough. maybe I'll be proven wrong, I don't have a crystal ball to see into the future, but I'm just pessimistic as we're getting Trump & Elon next year.
