THE POPPY WAR, by R.F. Kuang
“You humans always think you’re destined for things, for tragedy or for greatness. Destiny is a myth. Destiny is the only myth. The gods choose nothing. You chose.”
hello and welcome~
hi! I am aish (she/her), a fifteen year old walking, living, breathing contradiction. I’m interested in too many topics for my own good, and am always up to talk about something or the other! I define myself as someone who, fundamentally, loves stories, reading them, occasionally watching them and recently, writing them too.
some of my favourite books are the harry potter series (I do not support jkr; I love the art, not the artist), the young elites trilogy, the strange the dreamer duology, all of austen’s works (except for mansfield park), jane eyre, wuthering heights, rebecca, the portrait of dorian gray, the hunger games, rick riordan’s series, dracula, frankenstein, the grishaverse, anne of green gables, little women, the great gatsby, and mythology. (there are probably tons I’ve forgotten, but oh well.)
some of my favourite poems are annabel lee, dulce et decorum est, she walks in beauty, the garden of proserpine, the highwayman, because I could not stop for death, and ozymandias! (again, I’ve probably left a lot out.)
I’ve only watched two shows — the queen’s gambit and avatar: the last airbender — but I love both of them dearly.
I’ve played the piano since I was three! my writeblr is @kalliopeian
If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio
“Nothing makes sense to him either. His whole world is falling apart, and once he realizes he can’t stop it or fix it or change it, there’s only one thing left to do.” My eyes adjusted slowly, maddeningly. “What’s that?” His shadow shrugged in the gloom. “Absolve yourself. Blame it on fate.”
Serpent & Dove (2019)
“'Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from you.’ He trailed his fingers down my arm in slow, torturous strokes. My head fell back on his shoulder, my eyes fluttering closed, as his lips continued to move against my neck. ‘Where you go, I will go. Where you stay, I will stay.'”
Technology + SIX OF CROWS Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone… . A convict with a thirst for revenge A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager A runaway with a privileged past A spy known as the Wraith A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.
Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han
“Is this how it goes? You fall in love, and nothing seems truly scary anymore, and life is one big possibility?”
favorites of folklore ;
“ I’m a fire and I’ll keep your brittle heart warm if your cascade ocean wave blues come. All these people think love’s for show, but I would die for you in secret. ”
Daisy Buchanan, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Daisy was young and her artificial world was redolent of orchids and pleasant, cheerful snobbery and orchestras which set the rhythm of the year, summing up the sadness and suggestiveness of life in new tunes.
