You know, as much as I don’t like that Trump was trying to defund the USPS and was throwing accusations toward them during the election, I have had too many problems with the USPS to keep defending them.
I regularly have packages and letters that arrive with holes, tears, obvious places where they were attempting to re-tape the boxes, small rips in the contents of the letters. I’ve largely ignored it for the most part.
But it started bothering me when I first moved states because I shipped most of my belongings with USPS clearly labeled FRAGILE, and when I got to the new house and saw the boxes, they were literally falling apart. These were brand new boxes. Thank god I had the foresight to wrap all of my expensive items in blankets and coats.
But even that wasn’t enough to get an official filed complaint out of me. I was pissed, yes. But nothing was broken or missing inside the boxes.
And then today happened. I got home from work to find a little baggie on the porch with a ripped envelope from my sister. It was just a small tear. A whole chunk of the envelope was missing, not even included in the baggie. And what was left was haphazardly taped back together. This was no accident. Someone had ripped open the letter looking for cash or a gift card or something worth stealing.
The contents? The only thing in the envelope was my nephew’s kindergarten school photo. And it was destroyed by this asshole working for the USPS. Half the picture is missing. It’s crumpled up and has tears in what’s left of it. And I’m fucking livid.
I know it was someone from USPS, too, because my sister dropped it off at the post office, and it was in a baggie addressed by the post office with an “oopsie! This happens sometimes when we’re busy! Sorry!” Literally no one handled it between my sister and me except the USPS. I filed a complaint immediately, and if I don’t hear back by tomorrow, I’ll file another, and another, and another until they admit the blame and offer to refund my sister for the shipping costs.
