Part 1 Part 2 Part 3/Christmas special chapter
Simo was almost crying. They were back. They found him again. And they were whispering at his ears. It was unbearable.
"- Why did you kill us ?"
"- Why are you alive ?"
"- Do you worth it ?"
Simo knew he needed help, but he felt like something too heavy was on his chest. He couldn't move. The White Death was almost imploring them to live him alone.
"- We did not decide it."
"- It's not our fault, it was war."
"- Was it funny for you ?"
Kille was softly barking by his side. The dog was wondering where was the nice woman, the one leaving good meals in front of the door, the one who drove Simo and himself home. His human was almost suffocating, stuggling with the sheets and the blankets.
With all his despair, the dog bit in the sleepwear sleeve and pulled Simo out of the bed.
Seemed like it worked because Simo took a long and trembling breath, the nightmare just behind him. He could feel his guiltness ghosts on his back, ready to invade his sleep as soon as he would go back in his bed.
Shivering, he took some blankets with him, his pillow and dragged himself to the main room, wich served as living room, kitchen, library and cellar.
Unable to fall asleep again, he remained awake for an unknown time. Kille, who followed him, sat by his side to keep his human safe.
Simo knew the room the warm because the fire was always burning in the chimney, but he felt so cold, so... alone. Guilty. Not worthy of happiness.
"- She will know, she will know I killed her folk." whimpered Simo, staring at the small wood sculpture. "I can't bear it anymore. But I have to. It's my fault, and killers must suffer."
The sniper was half conscious, half wild. He whispered everything crossing his mind with a voice full of sadness and sobs.
He freed himself from his improvised nest and got up, almost falling because he was so exhausted by the tears that seemed to last a lifetime and moved with one of the most hesitant steps towards the chimney where the painted figurine stood.
He took it and put on his shoes. Took the blankets and wrapped it around his shoulders, then went outside in the icy wind of a Scandinavian morning.
The small ravenette let himself fall on the ground, the blankets firmly tightenedaround him. As always, the karjalankarhukoira was with him and just lied down with Simo, sharing his warmness with him.
Fatigue overcame the sniper, who fell asleep in a dreamless sleep, closer to a fainting or a coma than a true sleep.
Kille finaly stared straight at the woman hiding behind the forest trees, in the shadows.
It was you. You were here to leave some cookies in front of Simo's door, but you hid in the darkness as soon as Simo exited his own house.
The cookie box in hands, you approached the human and the dog quietly, ready to leave if the man woke up. But seemed like he was in a deep slumber and the dog did not look like he was going to bark.
So you came closer, going up on the terrace and leaning on the pale ravenette. You softly touched his wheek without your glove because it looked like he cried a lot.
"His cheek is moist. But what could have made him cry ? He remained calm even when his ankle was twisted."
Your hand went further down, next to his mouth. You felt a texture like bark, but more supple and warm. Exploring this unknown area, you touched something hard, smooth and in relief, slightly moist too, but with a more viscous humidity.
"Teeth ? It cannot be-"
But yes. It was. You tilted his head towards the moonlight so as to better see his face. Your heart sank when you saw the large, torn and twisted scar on his cheek.
You caressed his scar for a few more moments then passed your arms under him. You couldn’t leave him there, he would die of cold.

With a slight growl, you lifted him, the dog following.
Inside, the cottage was warm. You immediatly noticed the sculpture and the blanket nest.
You stepped carefully, reaching the bedroom door. You placed the pale man still wrapped in his blankets on the bed, went back take the other blankets and the pillow to arrange his bed.
Before leaving, you left the cookie box next to him, hoping his dog would not eat them.
You touch the scarf he gifted you then leave.
