Starr sees his lover/friend as a deity. He was the one who turned them and lessened the impact their chronic pain had on their body (it didn’t get rid of it, he still has to use a cane or crutch if he’s going to be standing for long periods of time) so even though he misses being human, he sees turning people as a ‘cure’ to chronic ills and suffering.

They have exactly the type of relationship you expect from a homoerotic 14-1800’s relationship to have. Internalised homophobia and social exclusion made any romantic connection impossible while human, but while travelling and living as vampires they lean more into the romantic tension, though are more ‘life partners’ than lovers for a long period. I can see them only just settling into the relationship as they get split apart. For the angst.

My oc Levana. A Countess from the 200 years between Scott and Owen's time who's husband was turned in a random attack in the woods. He returned home and soon after was subjected to an angry mob who, in their attempt to kill the creature in their town, stabbed the Countess trying to protect her husband. The Count returned, saving his wife with a bite but the stake, still covered in her blood, driven through his heart stopped him there. His cloak fluttering to the ground beside her, his ash dusting the floorboards as the villagers rejoiced fuelled her rage as she wiped the human influence from the town, leaving a stench of iron in the air as her husband's cloak dragged the blood she refused to drink behind her, disappearing off into the pale trees of a dying forest.
