The Truth is a Cave by The Oh Hellos // Travis Willingham as Fjord Stone in Campaign 2 of Critical Role // Laura Bailey as Imogen Temult in Campaign 3 of Critical Role
Okay, so since I've been dropping random ideas on casting, I thought I'd go ahead and do a full list with justification for each of them so everyone can kinda see where I'm coming from and I can feel stupid later when I'm wrong or REALLY superior when I'm right.
Preface: all of these guesses are based on my standing theory that the people they chose to highlight are characters introduced in the first two episodes to avoid getting into spoiler town three months out. Since we know there's a beacon heist early on, that basically means anyone in the Assembly or connected to the Beacon plot is fair game.
I initially thought a lot of the characters would be from the circus, but now I'm not sure, given how fast the circus plot seems to go (Alan Cumming is only in one episode) either Gustav fucking dies to Kylre (highly likely) or the entire Kylre plot takes up the better part of a 45 minute episode, which feels fine for pacing purposes, honestly.
So here we go. In order of how confident I am.
Mark Strong- Trent Ikithon. Already confirmed via Ripley flashback. He's been here the whole time.
Alan Cumming- Gustav Fletchling. Already confirmed via Alan Cumming's social media presence and a general disregard for NDA I guess. (Or they allowed him to confirm it because who is telling Alan Cumming no when it was ABUNDANTLY OBVIOUS who the fuck he'd be playing.)
Tim McGraw- Vandran. Absolutely no way it's not. Travis got to pick who plays his ship dad and he's a country boy. He will of course pick the most famous country singer who also voice acts every now and then.
Jonathan Frakes- Ludinus Da'leth. Listen I do hear you saying "But the Gentleman" and I do agree he would be very good as him, but these are the people who cast JANET VARNEY, AKA THE AVATAR, as Keyleth's mom. If they can get Xanatos to play Martinet Xanatos Gambit, that is who they are using him for. They would not miss the meme.
Ming-Na Wen- Astrid Becke. If Astrid is one of those people on the list and I assume she has to be, it's her. The one line sounds like her. She has the exact right energy.
Auli'i Cravelho- Marion Lavorre. If there are Vandran flashbacks, there will be Marion. 2/3 Disney Princesses on our list have beautiful singing voices, but only ONE of them has been on Fjord's playlist. If they got Moana, they're going to want to put her close to the sea. Also playing Sally Bowles in Cabaret means she's got that big diva energy, while also having this shyer, quieter countenance. Auli'i has the range to play Marion 100%.
Anika Noni Rose- Leylas Kryn. I am only confident in this in that she is the only other woman on the list and the only other SIGNIFICANT female character who could appear in the first two episodes and have a decent name attached is either Leylas or Vess and I just don't see her as Vess. Leylas though? She'd fucking rock Leylas.
Robbie Daymonde- Yeza Brenatto. This one isn't mine and I'm still not sure about it, but I feel like (A. They're going to try to get Yeza established in the narrative early to give viewers a SHOCK that oh shit his dead wife??? is Nott?? (B. If they continue the trend of "Robbie plays an NPC for some CR shows for groups he wasn't in" Yeza is the most fun for him to play and probably the easiest. Yeza is ABSOLUTELY in his character range. And it's hard for me to pick who else he would play this early on besides one of the carnies and I don't know if Robbie playing a carnie for one ep would be worth announcing.
Rahul Kohli- Eadwulf Grieve. I'm really not sure about this one, but Eadwulf IS in the scene with Astrid and presumably will have speaking lines, so unless Desmond or Bosun have bigger roles that would necessitate a bigger guest name a la Alan Cumming, I'm tentatively putting him down for Eadwulf, but I think it's more likely that he's Desmond or Bosun. (In my heart, Abubaker Salim is playing Eadwulf, but a girl can only dream so much.)
a Mighty Nein animated reactor I'm watching seems to be convinced that Vandran is an avatar for Uk'otoa and I'm not gonna lie that idea kinda fucks
