How much cooler would it have been if the veilguard crew had actually been assembled by Solas instead? *His* ragtag agents collected across thedas to be the change they want to see in the world— freeing slaves with the shadow dragons in tevinter, assassinating key opponents to his cause in antiva, causing havoc of all kinds with the lords of fortune and learning all new kinds of forgotten magic with the veil jumpers and the mourn watch and genuinely trying to end the blight with a warden. Solas could’ve had real oppourtunities to enact the radical anarchist freedom he wanted to see before bringing down the veil, and it would e been so cool to play a protagonist who’s actively trying to change the status quo. And then!! Then! Rook could’ve been the deciding factor on whether or not bringing down the veil is successful. Solas lets them get too close as they become more and more critical to his plans. He can’t stretch himself everywhere. He needs a loyal leutenant with a team to get things done while he handles the rest. And Rook could be true to Solas’s vision all the way through or be a double agent working with Varric behind his back. To be the new dread wolf to the old dread wolf’s constructed pantheon. The circular irony in that. Imagine
