The Heavens Are Empty: Tarn Steward

This behemoth creature stands taller than some buildings.  Its skin is supernaturally smooth and mirrored, a golden surface that reflects your face perfectly.  Its shape is that of an elephant, but with wisdom behind its eyes that no mere animal could ever achieve- the celestial before you is a paragon of good.  It plods closer, crossing the perfectly reflective and motionless surface of its home without a ripple.

The Tarn Steward is the caretaker of the Glass Tarn, which lies on the third of the Seven Mounting Heavens of Celestia.  The lake has prophetic powers, but more common than any prophecy are the visitors to Destiny Point, from which people may take a fragment of purpose that causes others to view them as someone with an important role to play in the multiverse.  The Steward watches over the Tarn and ensures that no being of evil may reach it to make use of its powers.  Ancient and mighty, the Steward is as powerful as any demon lord.

The Tarn Steward moderates its response to threats based on the level of danger to itself and any bystanders- it is not known to bring its full might to bear even against the most wicked of mortals if they do not merit its most decisive methods of achieving victory.  When it does, though, the Steward typically attempts a Trampling Charge on the first round of combat, followed by stomp attacks against any it successfully knocked prone.  If its foes resisted the charge, it instead uses its extensive water-based arsenal to spray holy water around the battlefield and manipulate its enemies’ positions to its own greatest benefit.  If it has allies present, it makes extensive use of its healing abilities.  In any case, the Steward rarely fights to its foes’ death, preferring to hand trespassers and those with malevolent intent over to the heavenly court for trials and appropriate sentencing.

The Tarn Steward rarely leaves the Glass Tarn in Venya, on Mt. Celestia.

With this, The Heavens Are Empty is finished!  I’ve added sixteen monsters to the ranks of the Celestial type, and if too many of them are insectoid, I’ve had bugs on the brain these past two years as a result of my home campaign.  Please do let me know if you use any of these critters in your own game, I would love to hear it.  The day might come when I add to the ranks of the heavens again, but for now, thank you for your time and consideration!

The Umbrella Academy is back on Netflix for season 2.  I haven’t watched it yet because I’ve been watching The Runaways on Disney+.

So which of these two groups ends up winning if they do battle.  Even numbers.  6 against 6.  There are 4 females and 2 males in the Runaways.  There are 2 females and 4 males in the Umbrella Academy.

Neither group functions as a team well at all times.  They each have their ups and downs.

The Runaways have some tech with Chase Stein, power with Molly, smarts in Alex, the power of the elements in Nico, a dinosaur that Gert can control and massive energy power in Karolina.

The Umbrella Academy are impressive, too, though.  Number One (Luther) easily has as much super strength as Molly.  Number Two (Diego) has tremendous aim, able to throw knives and daggers with exact precision.  Alex and Chase can’t really dodge that too easily.  Number Three (Allison) has mind control by murmuring just a few words.

Number Four (Klaus) can speak to the dead, but that doesn’t exactly benefit them in this fight.  But with Number Six (Ben), they’re dangerous.  Ben can summon tentacled monsters.

Number Five can time travel or he can teleport himself across the room.  There’s a definite versatility that comes in handy with that.

Then there is Number 7 (Vanya), who can transform sound waves into destruction.

Karolina and Vanya are a pretty even match, but I think Vanya wins that one.

Klaus and Ben could put on a pretty fun battle with Gert and her dinosaur, Old Lace. I think Klaus and Ben win that.

Luther defeats Molly.

Diego vs. Chase?  Chase would have to be on his absolute A game in order to defeat Diego, but I suppose it could happen.  Still, I’m giving Diego a victory over Chase

Allison and Alex would be interesting.  Allison isn’t exactly a fighter.  With her mind control, she’d seem like the victor.  Alex could possibly come up with a way to counteract her.  Maybe it’s just some noise canceling headphones or some collar that inhibits Allison’s voice?  Alex can have a victory here.

Finally, there’s Nico facing Number Five.  That one could go either way, too.  Number Five can teleport so he’s hard to beat, but Nico may be able to trap him inside some kind of wall that prevents him from teleporting?  Even if he does teleport, Nico may be able to take him in hand-to-hand combat.  They’re both pretty scrappy.  This could go to Nico, but I’ll give Number Five the win here.

So that’s Umbrella Academy - 5 and The Runaways - 1.

Anyone that stands behind the whole Allison and Luther thing obviously hasn’t got an adoptive or step sibling. I’m telling you, if you have been treated as siblings, especially for that long, it doesn’t matter about your DNA, you’re siblings. Which means it’s bloody incest.
