Heroes, Villains, and Mysterious Flowers (prev called Sunny Days, Bakudeku fic)
So I got done early (aka I was excited and I did a speed run through the last few hundred words)....I’m actually very happy with this. It was super fun to write and the rollercoaster of emotions that I went through when rereading made me very proud of myself. I just have a couple of things to say before the actual content starts.
Izuku is very protective and maybe a little feral. Am I sorry? No, not at all.
Second and lastly, the douchebag oc that I made is Nishimura Yousuke. He’s a first year hero student and his quirk is light manipulation (this isn’t really important to the fic, I just want to share the quirk I came up with for him). Katsuki refers to him as “Beach Day” in his head because his hair is golden like the sun and his eyes remind Katsuki of the ocean. I like Yousuke despite his douchebagginess in this fic, so he might show up more later.
So without further ado, my VERY late birthday gift for @deadwriter16 (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! <3): Heroes, Villains, and Mysterious Flowers
Why the fuck were there flowers on his desk?! Katsuki stormed across the room to his seat and quickly (yet carefully) tugged the note out of the small bouquet of sunflowers, orange roses, and red tulips. His face went red as he saw it was signed “Deku ❤” in the nerd’s scrawl. Why on Earth had the nerd been doing so much sappy shit for him lately? He gently but aggressively grabbed the vase that held the flowers and set it on the floor under his desk. Plopping down into his seat, he glared at the wall until the annoying, green nerd walked in.
Deku smiled his bright as fuck smile (that Katsuki totally didn’t melt over) and said his routine, “Good morning, Kacchan!” before sitting down at his desk. Katsuki blushed harder and continued glaring at nothing. Then Deku tapped him on the shoulder. He turned and his glare involuntarily softened at the sight of the green eyes that he loved so much. Deku looked confident and excited when he asked, “Did you like the flowers, Kacchan?”
The soft smile that was threatening to bloom across Katsuki’s face fell, “I-uh-fuck...Yeah. They were...nice...shitty Deku. What’s the occasion?”
Deku’s expression turned worried at Katsuki’s less than enthusiastic response, but he still sounded cheery as he replied, “No occasion! Pretty people deserve pretty things sometimes!” Katsuki looked surprised for a moment before his face closed off and he went to turn away, but Deku grabbed his arm. “Wait, Kacchan! Do you maybe wanna have lunch together today? I tried a new recipe today and it’s pretty spicy. I think Kacchan would like it.”
Deku smiled warmly at Katsuki and Katsuki’s heart melted. He couldn’t refuse Deku anything—even if Katsuki knew that it would only continue to hurt him…because Deku would never reciprocate his feelings. Katsuki grinned and agreed to the lunch plans, even though his heart was sinking with every second he was close to Deku’s smile.
Class went as it usually did, but during training Deku had come over to tell Katsuki that he had to run by the support department before lunch and to meet him in the cafeteria. Deku had slipped out quickly as the bell rang while Katsuki got up more leisurely.
He made his way towards the cafeteria, thinking about Deku like he usually did. They had a training session tonight and Katsuki was considering a new combo move that he wanted to bring up—
His attention was drawn by an underclassman pushing through the crowd. The kid had blonde hair that glinted like gold, and eyes that seemed to swirl between shades of aquamarine and navy, deep and piercing like the ocean. Katsuki glowered in his typical scowl, not out of any malice, just because it was his resting face, “Who are you and what d’ya want?”
The kid grinned with shiny white teeth that irritated Katsuki with their perfection. There was something about the kid that didn’t feel quite right, but Katsuki wasn’t in the business of purposefully disrespecting people who didn’t deserve it yet. Sure, Katsuki didn’t fucking know this kid, but he could have pure intentions. The kid bowed before speaking, “Nishimura Yousuke, first-year hero course. I just wanted to speak with you for a moment.”
Katsuki could swear that this Nishimura kid’s smile glinted with malice, but he brushed it off and motioned for Beach Day to say his bit.
“I just wanted to ask you…what a villain-like person like you was doing in the hero course?”
Katsuki physically reeled back at the kid’s audacity, “What the fuck—?!”
But Beach Day brushed him off and continued, “I mean—undoubtedly you have a strong quirk, but your personality leaves a lot to be desired. That’s probably why Midoriya-senpai doesn’t want to date you. Why would he, right? You’re abrasive, irrational, crude, and you hurt anyone in your vicinity for no reason. I’m honestly surprised you even have friends.”
On a normal day, Katsuki might have ripped this fuckers head clean off, but—honestly—was the kid wrong? He did push people away. He pushed Deku away. He pushes his own friends away. And he’s hurt some of the best people in his life….Deku…All Might—Deku. He’s trying to get better, but after every fucked up thing he’s done in the past decade—does he deserve it?
Katsuki’s pretty sure the kid is still talking, but at this point his words are going in one ear and festering without Katsuki comprehending them. He grins at the kid, but it’s dull and empty. His fire is burnt out. The kid looks like he’s about to start anew with his ranting, but then Katsuki hears something that strikes fear into his heart.
“Kacchan!” Deku is coming their way, and he looks downright furious. Katsuki is in pain because—fuck, he’s hurting Deku again. “Who the hell are you?” Deku stares down Beach Day with a glare that wasn’t afraid of murder.
The kid sputtered for a second before donning a sleazy grin and holding out a hand for a shake, “Nishimura Yousuke—”
“I didn’t ask for your name, but now I know who to report for harassment,” Deku spits venomously. “I meant who the fuck do you think you are? What’s the point of tearing down someone to this degree?”
The boy stutters for a second, but Deku interrupts him again.
“Kacchan is amazing! He’s the perfect example of redemption and victory, but little shits like you don’t fucking understand that because you don’t fucking care enough to even get to know him! You see him as a villain without consideration. Well I’ll show you what a real villain is.” Deku’s eyes darkened and Katsuki wasn’t quite sure if he was scared or horny, “I have half a mind to rip you in half, but I think that’s too easy. So why don’t I—”
At that point, Katsuki had shaken himself out of the funk he was in for the moment, and he wrapped both arms around Deku before he could attack the first year. Beach Day takes the opportunity to tuck tail and run, but he wasn’t really Katsuki’s priority. “What the absolute FUCK are you doing, shit nerd?! You coulda gotten in a shitton of trouble for hurting that first year! Besides,” Katsuki’s voice turned more downtrodden, “He’s—”
“NO!” Deku shook out of his grasp and desperately grabbed Katsuki’s shoulders. “He’s all wrong!” Deku got a bit more serious, “Kacchan. You have done bad things, but that does NOT make you a bad person. A bad person wouldn’t be trying as hard as you are to right their wrongs, and a bad person wouldn’t be as wonderful, amazing, and inspiring as you are to me.
“Kacchan, what I need you to understand is,” Deku stared at Katsuki and his green eyes bore into his soul, “I will fight for you. I would kill for you. I will love you to the day I fucking die, and I’m tired of you not seeing that!
“Please! Please know that you are loved! Every breath that I take fans the flames of my love for you. You are loved by the friends that surround you. No matter how gruff your exterior, they stay by your side because they love you. Our classmates love you not because you’ve never made mistakes, but because you own up to it when you make them. You are a good man and a good hero—my favorite hero. You show me every day that the best heroes are the best because they are determined to be better and more resilient than the day before, they are determined to win, not only for themselves, but for everyone else as well. You blind me with your brightness and I will shout my love from the rooftops until you understand that you are GOOD.”
Katsuki had started tearing up around the part about his friends, but at this point he was fucking bawling because, he was the nerd’s favorite hero?! He, who was a fucking asshole bully, had somehow surpassed All Might in Izuku’s mind and Katsuki was astounded and overwhelmed. But he knew that that was Deku’s way of showing how much he—holy shit, the nerd loved him. Katsuki snaked one arm around the back of Deku’s neck and hid his tears in the nerd's shoulder. He pounded on the broad chest he was cushioned on with his other hand, “Fuck. Fuck you, nerd. I fucking love you too.”
Katsuki knew that he was still going to have some problems accepting that the people who surrounded him actually cared about him—he’d been working on accepting the fact that his past does not make him a bad person—but when Deku wrapped his arms around him and hugged him back, he felt so safe and secure that it was hard not to feel loved.
“Wait…is that why you’ve been giving me all those fucking flowers and lunches lately?!”
