Some time ago, I found myself in some sort of quarter-life crisis or something, and I ended up binge-watching all the Mostar High movies and probably every episode of the First Gen series. I might check out the third gen too, but it doesn’t have the same nostalgic vibe for me, especially since they split Cleo and Deuce… But Frankie’s new concept looks amazing.
Anyway, during this nostalgia trip, my thoughts wandered to the X-Men and what kinds of creatures they might be in a monster reality.
And forgive me, Emma, but you would 100% be a Twilight vampire. You’re gorgeous, you can read minds, and you can sparkle – not only in the sunlight. I can totally picture a twisted version of Twilight where Scott drives to, well, I don’t even remember the name of the town, and all the vampires fight over him because his mind is just so “readable.”
As for Scott, he was the first one I assigned a monster form. Sure, Cyclops would’ve been the obvious choice, but it doesn’t feel quite right – a Scott who can’t hurt anyone with eye contact? Yes, I read an interesting story some time ago that explored why Scott’s codename made sense, but Scott’s fear of hurting people is a pretty important part of his personality. So there is Scott, the son of Medusa. I think the fear of turning someone to stone is kind of similar to the fear of shooting someone with your powers.
About picture:
Scott and Emma are sitting together in the morning. Don’t ask me why Emma is awake, and they’re playing cards—a version of gin rummy, maybe—and it would never occur to Emma to cheat... Emma is wearing Scott’s shirt, her skin sparkling in the morning rays.
She has golden eyes. I also have a version with red ones, but let’s imagine that she and Scott have been together for some time now, so Emma has switched from human to animal blood (her favorite is horses...), and her eyes have turned gold.
He still has red glasses, but they don’t have to be made of ruby quartz; he just keeps his powers in check. No shirt is needed. And I thought about what kind of snake he would have. A Pseudonaja textilis—the eastern brown snake—felt like the perfect choice. Why? Because why not make the boy whose gaze can turn people to stone even more traumatized? This snake mirrors Scott’s lethal potential and his constant fear of harming others, which is such a vital part of his personality.
In the picture, you can see Emma Frost, with light streaming across her from the window blinds. It’s supposed to be some late hour, maybe sunset, but since I know nothing about color theory, it looks more like some cold, pale sunrise. Why is Emma up at such an ungodly hour? I’d love to know that too.
Behind her is the infamous portrait of the original X-Men. Scott stands in the middle, with Jean draping her arm over him on his left. To the right, Hank is standing partially hidden, and Professor X is half-concealed, seated. Floating behind them is Warren, playfully gripping young Bobby by the neck.
No one was harmed in the making of this photograph.
On the glass of the portrait, someone’s drawn devil horns, glasses, a goatee, and a tail on Marvel Girl’s face and body. And it definitely has nothing to do with the blue marker in Emma’s hands.
“...as the X-Men will soon discover! Won’t they, my dear White Queen?”
— Uncanny X-Men #129
Rough sketch of Emma Frost as the White Queen.
Minimalist layering on a streaked blue background. Playing with light, shadow, and just enough attitude.
Emma’s hair flows in the "wind," and this time, she’s sporting her iconic blue lipstick along with her signature, though completely impractical, high-heeled boots (yes, for skating). I’m not even sure if that’s possible, but you’d surely agree with me that if it is, Emma would definitely wear them.
Otherwise, she’s not wearing much—just a collar, a top that suspiciously resembles a bra, and shorts that don’t look far from being categorized as underwear. On the other hand, Scott is dressed from head to toe (well, to his hidden toes). He’s wearing a red patterned vest, a black shirt, black pants, and his signature visor, since he doesn’t like to risk his glasses slipping off. (Although, considering the last image, he probably skates with glasses sometimes.)
At the very least, Emma looks in love, but Scott is definitely in love too.
These illustrations are inspired by the story Frostbite, written by the author medievalkoala, who goes by the username @elusiveweekend on Tumblr.
P.S. I’m not at all hoping that this will give the author a little nudge to write more chapters of this story or any of her other stories... not at all.
"I am a mermaid. I am a sea goddess. And I want to live. "
- All Fish Are Not Created Equal
This is Ororo. She is a mermaid, one of the most powerful in the ocean and a high-ranking ruler, the Lady of the Indian Ocean. Like all sirens, she possesses a mighty voice, and when it resonates, the heavens themselves thunder. Being part electric eel, she can deliver a jolt of electricity, making her dangerous to cross so she is commanding the first defense unit when needed. Ororo is Jean's best friend and right hand, Though she joined the "sisters of the sea" later in life, she quickly gained immense respect and admiration.
Her tail fin is golden, sleek, and adorned with a thin, colorful membrane running along its back. Around her neck, she wears a golden circular necklace, reminiscent of traditional Kenyan designs, covering her chest. The water around her crackles with electric energy.
Her story is one of legend, with some details tucked away in the corner, perhaps for discovery another time—if, of course, you’ve read this far.
