Sketch countdown to stranger things 5: 007/040
Making PB and J.
ok one last thing before we go into volume two but robin telling mike about how vicky also forced herself into a relationship that didn't work because she wanted to feel normal and mike finally being understood
ok i'm done let's do byler endgame guys
Okay spoilers for Stranger Things 5, Part 2.
So that scene with Will, we know the one.
So yeah it was a bit cringe, I did infact have to pause when I realized he was basically having a reverse intervention. Just like a business meeting with his fellow consperators for his coming out.
But like also good for him. Comand the room Will Byer, you deseve it. Love that for him.
Some one else said it too, and I kind of agreed in the moment but I've changed my mind for the most part, that there was no reason though, because like it was the 80s so homophobia, that Will should have come out to all those people, that it should have been just his mom, brother and core friends. But I disagree now.
Like yes in Perfect World, it should have gone mom-> brother/friends-> like, steve -> nancy/hopper. But they live in the apocalypse, not Happy Perfect World.
For the most part everyone in that room, if he had a normal life, and the world wasn't literally about to end if he and all of them weren't fighting inter-dementional monsters, most of them are people he would have come out to, or would found out eventually, and probably not been worried about in that better world.
His mom and brother, are his his family.
Mike, Lucas and Dustin are his best friends.
Max and El, literally close friends for years, and one is his sister.
Hopper, his step dad. Like yeah maybe there's room for worry, on Wills end, but also he's dating Will's mom, his mom WILL stand up for him, and he knows that. And Hopper, like literally has had conversation with Joyce about it, they talk about it in season 1 and Hopper's just like "okay well is he?" So chill about it. Like there's no way Hopper hasn't been so careful to not be homophobic around the kid
Erica, little sister to his best friend, kind of a bitch, absolutly terrifying little girl, BUT some one hes probably talked to a lot especially over the last year. Like he does know her, has probably since she was a toddler. Like he knows the Sinclair as a family, He knows past the fear shes probably safe.
Nancy, sister to his best friends and long term girlfriend to his brother, basically sister in law, barring schrödinger's make-up-break-up, he knows her, she's not overly traditional, lets be real.
Robin, gay, his gay mentor, already knew, probably he found her presence SAFE and REASSURING
Vicky, his gay mentor's not straight girlfriend, probably found that safe and reasuring also, like he's not gonna out them but he's not the only queer kid in the room.
Steve the hair Harrington, already fully vetted allie. I could see there being room for doubt, but like, shits complicated and he had his brother's there. My brother hates me and I still think he'd beat the shit out of anyone who hurt me.
Mr. Clarke and Murray are the only one that its a bit iffy on, but,
Mr. Clarke is some one who would probably have never found out in Non-Apocalyps World, but is someone Will knew in middle school and probably had a good relationship with just like his friends as it shown in season 1, when he's showing them the radio. Very distant relationship though it is, this is some one who he knows and has looked up to in some way. For better or worse Mr. Clarke is there, he's involved, and he's a nice guy.
Murray, like absolutely obnoxious dude, yeah, says rude shit all the time, probably has said some homophobic shit in passing, but lets be real its equal opertunity ribbing not genuine homophobia, and has also been in contact with Will for years off and on, as his moms and Hopper's "friend" and more-so the last year as their smuggler, like this IS someone he knows and had probably had many conversations with whether he likes the guy or not. He just not a total stranger, and for better or worse he's there, he's involved.
But ultimately, Will was CHOOSING to be a bit cringe, he was CHOOSING to do it all at once, to all these people with all these degrees of relationship and guaranteed-to-not-guaranteed safety, because their world IS ending, and he DOES have to prove to himself, not that Henry is wrong about their potential reactions, but that he is brave enough to do that, that his is a courageous person regardless. He came out to a room full of people he's known for more or less his whole life in one giant swing, I bet that boy was TERRIFIED, I bet he STAYED shaking for an hour after. He fucking risked it all in one giant sweep, and you mad it was kinda cringe?
Like he really risked it ALL in the 80s, that his closest relationships might turn on him, and that the distant ones might lash out, ALL AT ONCE. That's terrifying. I'm almost 30 and there's people I won't even tell I'm ace because I'm dreading their ractions/the drama/ just having to explain what that is.
And I've heard people say he was force to come out by Vecna, and I wont totally dispute that, but I will say, I dont view it as Venca taking that choice away from Will, like, forcing the words out of his mouth in a mind control moment or anything to weakin him, Venca didn't WANT, wasn't thinking or PLANNING on Will being brave enough to come out, he wanted Will to stay in the closet so he could keep using that emotional manipulation against the kid.
Will chose to take that power out of Henry's hand, for better to worse, to take that leap on his own, to take control of his life and his narrative back. Henry wasn't pushing the comming out, Will personally just knew comming out or not was going to be what would make or break his own conviction. He knew that that fear was a distraction, so he took the fear of the unknown out of the equation in one massively terrifying swoop, fully of his own volition, behind Henry's fucking back.
Yeah I've talked myself into. The scene was a bit cringe but it was also really really sweet and narratively justified.
Congratulations Will Byers I'm so fucking proud of you.
[Edit, forgot about Kali, anyway is sister's sister. She grew up in a government lab and taught El what Butch was, she has no consept of homophobia and was radiating Safe Energy just absolutely No One Will Touch My Sister Twitchy Little Brother Energy, So I Think It Mote It Be Energy.]
Going between Heater Rivalry (very canonly gay, I'm reading the whole series and it's all very good) and Stranger things (LET'S GO LESBIANS and the non canon queer baiting ships) really is something. I'm 50 minutes into the final let's see if Byler is endgame, NO ONE FUCKING TELL ME
SO, I've been a st fan since FOREVER, I watched every damn season just for that ass ending. I'm actually so disappointed. I can not believe that it was just a straight downfall.
So I made a silly au
Everything is the San but Will is a volunteer nurse in the hopsital, thats it
