Terrorist Attacks on Brussels: But Why, God?

     My heart goes out to all those affected and harmed by the terrorist attacks in Brussels. With the consecutive attacks that have taken place around the world within the last couple of months, many people may question why God allows these horrible things to happen…

     I think one thing that is important for us to keep in mind is that we are living in the physical realm of a spiritual war zone. Good and evil are in a constant battle, and the enemy has made it their mission to deceive us in hopes of recruiting us to their side. The Devil is a mastermind at contorting the truth to help evil people justify the evil things that they do. WE ARE NOT AT WAR WITH EACH OTHER PEOPLE! We are all human beings. We may come from different places, speak different languages, and embrace different cultural norms, but at our core we are so much more alike than we care to let on. 

     God is not malicious. God is not destructive or manipulative. Our God is a GOOD Father who cares about ALL of His people. God sent His one and only son to save us from the grips of death and destruction. Because of Jesus' sacrifice, we are freely gifted God's grace when we accept him as our Lord and Savior. It is in times of devastation and chaos that the Devil tries to steal our hope. He enjoys seeing us break - which is exactly why we must stay strong through Christ. Times will only get worse. It is clearly stated in The Bible, but thankfully The Bible also lets us know who wins in the end! GOD HAS ALREADY WON THE WAR!

Victims and Victors

In this world, there are the victims, and there are the Victors. The victims live in such a way that they look for others to pity them, to do their work for them, to fight their battles for them. They are sluggards. They are cowards. They are the people who waste their lives away watching the world go by without a care in the world. Victims will lie, cheat, and steal just to make their lives easier. And when it really counts, the victims will not be present to assist, to guide, or to provide service. Rather, they will be selfishly observing from the sidelines. The Victors, however, gain respect and honor because they choose to work hard. Because they choose to build character. Because they choose to help others when others are in need. Because they choose to overcome the trials life throws at them, rather than allowing those trials to bring them down and victimize them. A Victor is trustworthy, a man/woman of honor, a person who respects others even when they are not respected themselves. The Victors hold their heads high, never allowing themselves to stoop to such a level as that of the victim. As a Christian, I choose to be a Victor because Jesus had suffered through torture, insult, rebuke, and crucifixion to give us the ability to get up from our previous position of the victims and rise to the level of the Victors. To come out on top when all else seems lost. Of course, there were many Victors before Jesus’ time. But now, because of God’s promise to mankind, He has given us hope. Hope that mankind can be pure again through Christ. A guarantee that fighting for what is right is not a futile act. But if you are a Christian and choose to be a victim, then how can you expect yourself to excel in your spiritual walk? How can you help others when it comes to the toils of daily life? In order to truly spread God’s Holy Word, you must choose to hold yourself as the Victor that God created you to be. For in the end, when the ashes settle and a new earth is upon us, the Christians, the Children of God, the Victors, they will forever remain triumphant in the Kingdom of God. So how many of you will choose today to stand up, to rise from the cowardly position of the victim, to shout to the world saying “I will no longer be the victim that I have previously chosen to be! For by the grace of God above, I AM A VICTOR.” Then you will truly understand what it means to walk with God. What it truly means to be a Christian. What it means to be a Victor.
