One of my oldest still-active OCs, Mars! (He's a Vido, which is a semi-open species.) Perfect for this contest I swear. He is evil and mean and hates everyone <3 and also space-themed.
Ask me about him ask me about him ask me ab- *I am dragged away kicking and screaming*
I experimented with the freehand pen tool/curves for this one! Kind of a pain to use, but the lines are ~clean~ as heck, which is nice. Also allows for way more tweaking without ruining the lines, which is nice.
My main idea was to have the negative space of Mars' position end up being his relic (which is kind of like his egg? I guess? Basically relics are little magic pods that come in various shapes and sizes and, once activated, the fluid inside takes on the colours that the Vido will have! The circle in the middle is kind of like an embryo. I can link stuff on the species if requested). I dunno, thought it'd be poetic for him to hold himself before he became a monster and a jerk who hates everyone.
I also looove drawing space effects! Shoutout to Yuumei's cloud brush pack. Been using it for a decade. (Mars himself is only a couple years younger... he's almost 8! Wowie. How time flies.)
Here's a version of the art without the inverted bits.
scott dm-ing joel episode one (3rd life) trying to get him to base with them, what if i die, how did i never notice that
they are a BEAUTIFUL representation of what i love in friendships, you can be an absolute asshole to one of your friends to the point where everyone around you thinks you hate the others guts and wouldnt care if the other dropped dead but you always think of them first when it comes down to the important bits
"i hate you" one day, a shoulder to cry on another
every part of the life series has so many interpretations and faces its kind of magical and i fall in love with it more each time i watch it again
also martyn being annoyed they are dm-ing mid death game, no one else hates like you martyn
