Due to his upbringing Yongguk is a quiet man, years of being told to be neither seen or heard in the different foster homes he learned to keep his mouth shut. He took that with him into adulthood. Yongguk isn’t very materialistic, he doesn’t hold material things too close and is always ready to move on when needed. He kept one thing that reminds him of the only happy moments of his childhood. A small stuffed Tigger (Winnie the Pooh he keeps on his key chain. It was the only gift his father gave him before he passed away and it was the only thing he’s managed to keep with him after all these years.
While he might be an experienced fighter but does not like confrontation, he fights for money rather than anger or rage. He uses his skills to protect others in need. He enjoys spending time alone, listening to calming music and writing whether it's poems or lyrics that help him express the trauma he went through as a child. He uses working out and boxing to help with his rage, he enjoys the sting of his knuckles after hitting the punching bag and his sore muscles after a workout.

Yongguk’s past was one like many others, a child thrown into foster care at a young age and forgotten about until he became of age.
It all started on March, 31, 1990 where Bang Yongguk was a bastard son who’s mother Kim Haein had an affair with her boss Bang Sewoon. Sewoon had a loving wife who had failed to get pregnant but that didn’t stop her husband from stepping out on her. Sewoon managed to keep Yongguk a secret for over 5 years, only seeing him on birthdays and sometimes on holidays. One Christmas Haein got very sick and soon after she passed away leaving her only son to his father who still had an unsuspecting wife. That afternoon Sewoon brought Yongguk to his home, he tried his best to explain to his wife but amongst the shouting and yelling she gave him an ultimatum ‘Either me or that bastard’ Of course Sewoon chose his only son. With only the clothes on his back he took his son and disappeared into the night never looking back. They spent the first couple of months bouncing from hotel room to hotel room but things began to become tight when Sewoon lost his job for fornicating with a subordinate. He immediately knew who was behind his company finding out but there was nothing he could do. Money now tight and savings drained, the two ended up living on the scalding summer streets of Tokyo.
By his 6th birthday Yongguk had been living on the streets for over a year with his father. He knew of the harsh summer heat and brutal winter cold but they adapted. It was hard for his father to find a job, his reputation now down the drain so it was hard for them to obtain simple things like food and shelter, often sleeping on the ground or going days without eating. On the day of Yongguk’s birthday his father had scrapped enough money to buy them something to eat ‘What would you like to eat son?’ “I would love a slice of pizza daddy!” Recounting the change in his hands the father smiled, he had enough for a single slice of pizza. “Let’s get you that pizza birthday boy” With a happy squeal the two off to buy food. A nearby homeless man seeing the glint of change and dollar bills in Sewoon hand charged after them. He tackled the homeless father to the ground for the money. Sewoon yelled at Yongguk to run and scared the little boy did just that. Not even stopping when he heard a wail of pain that sounded eerily like his father’s voice.
It would be days before Yongguk was found wandering the streets, eyes sunken in, lips dry and all skin and bones. He was found by a police officer who swept him away and promised to find his parents. After hours of searching they could not find his father or mother who were both now gone. The police officer now gave Yongguk a new promise, which was to find him a loving family to look after him. The 6 year old boy was placed in the foster care system soon after. Years later Yongguk was still being bounced from foster home to foster home, the next one worse than the previous. From being cursed at for not reasoning fast enough in one home to being smacked on the face for not cleaning the dishes well enough in another home. Yongguk didn’t know what it was about him that he seemed to turn on the rage of the adults around him. The worst being the home where he was beaten up because he ‘turned on’ the man’s wife.
It wasn’t until his 15th birthday did he realize just how good he had it in the streets with his dad. His final foster home was a tiny house filled with way too many kids than beds. Upwards of 10 kids in a closet sized room, not enough room to even turn without bumping into a handful of other people. The ‘foster parents’ could care less about the children, all they saw were walking checks that they couldn’t wait to cash. There wasn’t enough food for the kids and Yongguk being one of the older kids he would try his best to make sure the younger ones got food before he did. He’s been in their shoes, he knows what it means to go to sleep hungry. Yongguk was in this home the longest, seeing the younger kids and how helpless they were he knew he had to help. One day what the adults would call a “shipment’ of children came to the home. 4 or 5 scared kids scurried in and the couple was handed a handful of checks. Yongguk tried his best to calm the new kids down, help them ease into the transition. A small little girl caught his eyes, what caught his attention was her eyes. They were an off white clouded eye with no pupil, in direct light there were sparkles of different colors in her eyes. It amazed him, She couldn’t be older than 3. He spent the day with her, attending to her and creating a bond with the feeling of needing to protect her. Over the next couple of days the two kids became attached to each other. He gave her the name Opāru. Yonguk noticed that Opāru wouldn’t eat any of the food he tried to fed her. He told the grown ups but they didn’t care, it would be more food for them. The next morning Yongguk went around looking for Opāru, he found her in a room chewing on a metal rod of a chair. He was shocked to see just how sharp and pointy her baby teeth were.
He brought it up to the adults afraid that the little girl would get sick eating metal, with Opāru on his hip he tried to explain to them what he caught her doing. The couple took one look at the girl and gasped in horror, it was like they were seeing her for the first time. Yelling comments about being ‘one of them’, they tried to rip her from his grip and he frantically held on to her. Yongguk ran out of the house to get away from them. The foster parents had no trouble closing and locking the door leaving the two kids outside and alone. Being only 15 years old now with a 3 year old out in the streets the two had nowhere to go. He was afraid to go to the police in fear they would just take him back to the foster home. He knew he couldn’t go back there. When Opāru became fussy he decided to sit down with her on a park bench, he had been walking all day trying to figure out what to do. The fatigue hit Yongguk all at once and before he knew it he was dozing off on the bench. In the middle of his sleep he was awoken by a group of men and women all yelling “All hail the mighty Myrkr” ramblings that they found their chosen one , he was surprised to see they had Opāru in their arms and were scurrying away.
Yonguk ran after them but they were too fast, they disappeared behind a heavily wooded part of the park and seemed to vanish into the air. That began his 10 year long hunt for the little girl. He searched high and low for Opāru or even the people that took her but it was no such luck. The longer he searched the more he found about Myrkrs, he learned about the mythical world and just how many creatures roamed the earth. He frequented bars and underground gatherings trying to get more information. Being a human inquiring about a world that wasn’t his home usually ended one of two ways, in a fight or running an errand just to obtain some of the infor he was looking for. Throughout the years he picked up a love for fighting, sure some mythical creatures like to play dirty and use their powers but something about hand to hand combat appealed to Yongguk. So it became his hobby, he trained and got better. He would bet on underground fights and win in order to have money to live and eat. He’s a fighter.
On his search he stumbled across an old run down bar owned by what he’s pretty sure is a perv who hit on him the second he got through the door. Yongguk was told this man could help with possibly finding someone for the right price. After meeting Jinki he soon realized he wasn’t going to be much help, since Yongguk didn’t know Opāru’s real name the Shigofumi couldn’t locate her. Jinki did advise him of an academy that housed many different kinds of mythical creatures; he might have more luck there.
After getting advice from Jinki about the academy Korea he took the first plane from Osaka Japan to Seoul South Korea. After finding Insolitus he was told around a local orphanage when he asked a passerby about looking for Opāru. He made the journey to The Down and soon found the ‘Lonely’ Orphanage after speaking with the Nagini nurses he obtained a job to look after the children. He hoped maybe this way one day he’ll find Opāru again.
