Top 5 scents in nature! If you have top 5 perfumes I’d love to hear them too.
I don’t wear perfumes as such, but I do wear diluted essential oils when I can, and these are my unoriginal favorites:
1. Lavender
2. Jasmine
3. Rose
4. Bergamot
5. Rosemary
(also eucalyptus, but not to wear)
Re scents in nature - as with flowers, in my desperate quarantined state I just want to say ‘all of them’, but I’ll try:
1. The earth after rain
2. The sea
3. Those pink flowers in Greece which smell like candy
4. Lavender, again
5. Sun-warmed rock
Top five soap scents (liquid or bar)
dr. bronner's peppermint because 1. you can smell nothing else for a week & 2. you get reading material as a bonus (SPACESHIP EARTH)
pear things, no specific brand
bath and bodyworks sweet pea
softsoap Himalayan Pink Salt
i don't know what it's called but Lush has a sandalwood one i like

I always assume it disturbs the seal between the metal lid and the glass edge through a physical force, as running it under hot water does through thermal means -- I always try to hit on the metal lid and never on the body of the jar and it seems to work ok
It may be because I have poor aim and powerful muscles but I never get whacking it on the counter to work. But with the sink? Every time.
I guess I just need to wine and dine the jar more than counter whackers, gotta get to know the jar while the water’s heating up

4. What's your go-to bar order?
I prefer mezcal on the rocks, but I usually end up ordering tequila instead bc generally they dont have mezcal lol. I have been drinking more mixed drinks lately, but only if they seem interesting and particularly if they are spicy (yes that's a thing). I dont often go to places where I can order drinks though lol.
22. What was your "phase" when you were younger?
Mythology in generally but particularly Greek mythology. I kinda saw it as a way of, like, connecting to the part of me that's Greek? I didnt grow up in a culturally greek household so yeah. Idk. It's kinda silly I know.
24. What's your opinion on Lazy Susans?
If they actually work smoothly (which I imagine has something to do with being properly oiled or cleaned) and generally quiet, then they're good. If they're shaky or loud I hate them. Also sometimes they arent useful but for large tables with lots of people they can be wonderful.
💚💙👅!
💚 Ship that you secretly like:
Hmm… I can’t actually think of one. I have lots of ships that I don’t really talk about, but none I feel I have to hide at all cost. Even the ones I’d consider my guilty pleasures, I’ve no problem owning up to them :P
And on that note…
💙 Ship that you used to have as an OTP:
lmao when I was wee, I used to ship Bonnie Prince Charlie/Flora MacDonald something hardcore. I think it was possibly even my very first otp! I wrote fic and AUs and everything, before I even had any concept of fanfiction.
Look. I was like seven, and there was just something about the idea of the plucky peasant lass helping the handsome prince on the run escape from his pursuers by dressing him in drag that was irresistible to me. I was even quite bemused by the fact that they didn’t end up together because like… surely that was just the logical conclusion???
Then I got older, and realised what a prick Charlie actually was, and how Flora could (and did) so much better. *sigh* Oh well. It was fun while it lasted (and now that I think about it, probably a formative influence on my love for royalty/commoner, class difference romances).
👅 Ship that you find most sexy:
Childermass/Lascelles from JSAMN, for sure! Everything about them, the power dynamics, the fucked-up kinky potential - all of it - is just... hnnnnnghhh.

for the bored as fuck quarantine asks:
34. Do you have more art on your walls or more photographs?
funny one should ask because I’m currently in the process of trying to get a ton of shit up on my walls--I’d say it’s 75/25 in favor of art at the moment, but I have a couple sentimental photos from college I need to get printed and framed which will tip the balance.
41. Knives or swords?
fencing foil (no épées, no sabers)
42. A song you didn’t think you’d enjoy but ended up loving
country roads

putting it behind a cut in case anyone plans to do the puzzle, but the quote in today’s NYT acrostic puzzle cracked me up:
“Who is the beauty icon that inspires you the most? ...Mine is Nosferatu, because that vampire taught me my...two favorite beauty tricks of all time: avoid the sun at all costs and always try to appear shrouded in shadows.” -- Mindy Kaling, Why Not Me?
