Finally took out the violin for the first time in a while and something is eating the hair on my bow again 🙃
What do?
does anyone have any advice on tuning violins like......mine is not staying in tune and my e string peg is NOT staying in place. my peg drops solidified and i can’t even use those.
This is what I’m learning at the moment. I just need advice on a position change for the C in bar 5.
Current instinct is play E F G in 1st and then A B C in 3rd (but then I struggle with getting back for the D)
this is kind of a shot in the dark but my violin pegs keep slipping? Whenever I tune it it automatically slips back to where it was and? wow? also I got my violin on craigslist so maybe that's why but it's been in good shape so far? but any advice on how to stop slipping pegs would be awesome!!
It’s time to change strings!! How I love new strings.. they feel so fresh and vibrant and responsive.. *happy sigh* 😊 Here are the steps I use for changing strings: 1. Carefully unwind the string from the peg box. Make sure that you only change one string at a time. If you take off two or more strings at a time you risk your bridge or sound post falling over. You can discard your old strings or keep them to make jewelry and things 😋 I keep my old strings as back up emergency strings or for students when they need a new one. There are also youth string education programs that accept old string donations - you can search for them online. 2. Next I use a lead pencil to lubricate the grooves in the nut and on the bridge. This helps to keep the strings from pulling or unravelling prematurely when tightening the new string. 3. This next part is optional but convenient. I use a rubbing alcohol pad to gently clean the fingerboard. If you do this make sure to put a cloth of some sort under your fingerboard so you don’t risk getting any alcohol on the body of your instrument. Alcohol will immediately eat away varnish - but there is no varnish on the neck or fingerboard so you don’t need to worry about that part. Wipe dry with a tissue, paper towel or cloth. 5. Apply peg dope/compound to your pegs. This keeps your pegs turning smoothly so you don’t damage your instrument by turning pegs that are stuck. Apply 2 to three strokes along the length of each peg. 6. Insert the new string into the peg and make sure you can see about half a centimeter coming out the other end. Push the string with your finger to the side closest to the inside of the peg box while slowly turning the peg with your other hand. (After about two turns put the ball end of the string in the tailpiece and make sure it is secure.) Apply moderate pressure to push the peg into the box while tightening the string. If done correctly your string will be evenly wound against the inside of the peg box. Make sure that the new string is properly settled in the grooves in the bridge and nut before tightening the string all the way. 7. Repeat for the remaining strings. Happy new string practice! ❤️

Anyone know how much it costs to restring a violin? The strings on mine aren't super great quality and it feels weird going from note to note with my fingers.
New Violin blog!
Okay hello dear followers!
I know, you literally never hear from me at all. All I reblog is One Piece lol, but that’s besides the point!
I created a new blog called Treble Support (https://www.tumblr.com/blog/treblesupport), which is just a blog about gathering people who love the violin together in one place in order to give advice and share achievements and what not with others! It’s like a help desk for people to gather around and ask questions and get help from others. If you are interested, why not drop by the blog and give a follow if you like what you see. Since I made it today (5/21/16), there isn’t any posts on there yet, but it will get there!
So thank you in advance for any support you give the blog! :)
