Nobuko Imai

Viola player Nobuko Imai was born in Tokyo in 1943. Imai has won the highest honors at both the Munich and Geneva International Viola Competitions. She has released more than forty albums, and appeared with orchestras such as the Boston Symphony, the Chicago Symphony, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In 1993, Imai won the Avon Arts Award. In 1996, she received the Suntory Hall Music Prize, the most prestigious musical award in Japan. In 2023, Imai was awarded the Golden Alto Clef, the International Viola Society's highest honor.
