I have a little urge to call up businesses to ask things just to see whether they'd call me ma'am or sir. My body/face still doesn't pass yet at all but my voice is reading male (albeit with breaking) on voice training apps.. But I hope I don't make myself out to look like a prank caller...but I suppose essentially I actually would be a prank caller because I'm not a customer. Have other trans people done this or suggest alternatives?

Using Google Voice To Reduce Your Smartphone Bill

Voice Apps bzw. Interfaces sind die größte Neuerung und UX Herausforderung seit Erfindung des iPhones, aber es gelten noch immer die klassischen Usability Prinzipien. Um zu verstehen, wie Voice Apps funktionieren sollten und wie Menschen damit umgehen, müssen wir die menschliche Kommunikation verstehen und nachvollziehen, dass die NutzerInnen eine Erwartungshaltung haben, die darauf basiert wie sie üblicherweise durch Sprache kommunizieren.
Erst einmal ist es wichtig, den Usern genügend Infos darüber zu geben, was sie tun können. Außerdem muss man ihnen die Einschränkungen verständlich machen, insbesondere dass aktuell kein richtiger Dialog entstehen kann. Bei der Konzeption versucht man, die Absicht der NutzerInnen zu antizipieren: man kann zwar nicht alle Absichten vorhersehen, aber man kann eine Infrastruktur schaffen, die Kontext-bezogen funktioniert. Hierfür startet man am besten mit einem konkreten Use Case und versucht die Intention des Users an jedem Punkt der Konversation zu antizipieren, um eine passende Antwort parat zu haben. Damit das funktioniert ist es wichtig, gut zu planen, detailliert zu konzipieren und mit diversen potentiellen NutzerInnen zu testen.
Was kann die App?
Nutzer können nicht sehen, wo sie in der VUI sind, also muss man ihnen sagen, welche Funktionen sie nutzen und nutzen können und dabei die richtige Menge an Infos bieten. Je nach Thema der Voice App braucht man eine passende Einführung, um über die Möglichkeiten der App zu informieren.
Wie strukturiert man die Konversation?
Hinsichtlich der Konversation gibt es ein paar grundlegende hilfreiche Regeln. Ja/Nein-Fragen bieten sich an, weil sie unkompliziert sind und die NutzerInnen sie gut beantworten können. Pro Interaktion empfiehlt Amazon maximal drei Optionen. Außerdem sollte man die Möglichkeit bieten, aus der Konversation/Anfrage auszusteigen und neu anzufangen, falls eine falsche Abzweigung genommen wurde. Falls die Voice App etwas nicht versteht, sollte eine sinnvolle Antwort gegeben werden (Bitte wiederholen, bitte langsamer reden, oder andere Fragen vorschlagen), sodass keine Sackgasse entsteht sondern eine Hilfestellung gegeben wird.
Ausblick
Momentan fehlt Voice User Interfaces die Fähigkeit, weiter zu gehen als einfache Anweisungen zu verarbeiten. Sie sollten noch mehr „conversational“ werden, sodass man tatsächlich eine Unterhaltung mit ihnen führen kann. Um das zu erreichen, müssen sie sich die Vergangenheit merken: sowohl vergangene Konversationen als auch das, was die NutzerIn im Verlauf der aktuellen Konversation gesagt hat. Es wird auch nötig sein, dass Voice Apps und andere Apps und Geräte besser miteinander verknüpft werden, damit man in unterschiedlichem Kontext von Voice zu visueller Darstellung z.B. auf dem Laptop wechseln kann. („Alexa, schick das an mein iPhone“).
