Monday, April 12: Volture, “Heat Seeker”

The sudden abundance of bands playing deliberate throwbacks to traditional ‘80s metal was strange enough, but what made it a little more interesting was how many of these groups consisted of guys known for much harsher material. Such was certainly the case with Volture, given that its founders came from Municipal Waste and Cannabis Corpse, but “Heat Seeker” was a catchy and fun banger that lived up to its name.  To be sure, it was clearly pastiche, as was the rest of On the Edge, but it was clear that the only intention was to have fun playing heavy metal music, and that radiated out of every note.  Its ambitions were slight, but “Heat Seeker” did its job well.
