And also i think many forget one of Fiddleford’s defining traits-his main defining trait actually-is his anxiety. And what that anxiety meant for his relationship with Stanford. Fiddleford paranoia manifests as anxiety and compulsions, while fords paranoia manifests into avoidant and antisocial behavior.
The reason i bring it up is bc i believe one of the main barriers to fiddlefords relationship with ford is his anxiety around the repercussions of not only being in a homosexual relationship but also such a genuinely scientifically insane duo? Like he knows Ford will always have this push and desire for more knowledge, pursuing greater ideas, and fiddleford knows he doesn't have the strengh to Not contribute however dangerous they could be, nor does he have faith in his own ability to be able to steer Ford in a different direction
And its so odd to me when ppl act like their main relationship trouble was just like. Ford not liking him enough? or ford liking bill more? when that truly just waters doen the complexity of their dynamic. They both obviously cared deeply for each other, it was moreso that Ford lost sight of the danger when he set out on his goals while fiddleford lost sight of the potential positive outcomes when sticking through the scary/dangerous situations.
A Better World proves that there IS a reality where they were able to see each others perspectives and successfully create a safe version of their portal project and i think too many forget that !! And they just throw away the entire concept of the portal era as "Ford''s foolish hubris" and not just a series of misforutunate circumstances/bills manipulation and abuse. The portal could have been viable, if Fiddleford had spoken up sooner, if Ford had been able to work though his paranoia to trust him fully
