Apo would believe in skeptic conspiracies such as the government being controlled by the wealthy (valid tbh) while Shelby would believe in conspiracies like “the government is controlled by lizard people”. They are wearing matching tin foil hats together <3
Shelby was more hostile to Apo in the beginning than she was to pretty much anyone. They both hate the government. They’re narrative foils. They both care so much yet Shelby lacks the fight Apo has in spades. Shelby is everyone’s darling, Apo is everyone’s monster. Apo sought Shelby out when the executioner’s blade of their deal hung over their head and Shelby told them vampires might just be nice. They both end up shadows of the people they were before, scarred by the violence they commited and were victim of. They had a heart to heart. Apo tried to bring them back to town. Shelby wished that Apo had stayed with the coven. They had a climatic midair battle as bats. Apo chose to spare Shelby, even when she was at absolute rock bottom.
Like passing ships in the night. They never see eye to eye but they carry the exact truths the other needs. Shubble cares about joy and freedom over duty to people who never understood them. Apo sees through the facade of the castle and knows that dancing around the hurt done to you is no way to be happy. In another world, they could have changed everything for each other.
I think this has a poetic ship name or three, but TBH my mutual calls it Shelbyapo and I’m submitting this in their honour, so I’m just going with that.

also!! i feel like there’s so much potential of apo like. genuinely loving shelby but then being torn bc she hates what she stands for (selfishly choosing her own happiness over the harm her “family”’s caused, both to apo and to everyone else). and i think this reverses pretty well too; i think that shelby is a very emotional thinker and therefore confuses her feelings to what’s *actually* happening, so she genuinely loves apo but doesn’t like how she — in shelby’s mind — chooses her own pettiness over the possibility of peace. so yeah like i said before. gay narrative foils 👍

god i have like NO reasoning for this besides Vibes. oliver soundly is barely even a character. please vote for lovesong yall i literally love them so so so much im the #1 lovesong fan ever. i think sausage crashed out horribly after oakhurst but whenever he realized oliver didnt mean to do anything wrong they kissed and ran off into the sunset together. friends to lovers can anyone hear me? theyre both #freakmaxxing at all times as well they keeping making out as a "joke" and literally no one believes them when they try to explain that its just a really intense long-running bit
Oli was the one who told Sausage about Oakhurst and Sausage questions if Oli knew the truth about Oakhurst in his book, and that if he did, why he told Sausage about the place.
Considering how Oli is a friend of Sausage and is also clearly a reference to Oli OrionSound, he is presumably also involved in the arts. Two guys like that™️who are involved in the arts during that time period have definitely made out at least twice.
Sausage is left completely without connections after Oakhurst and is pretty clearly not doing well. It would make sense for him to track down Oli and find out if he had known what he was sending Sausage into. Sausage would also probably realise pretty quickly that Oli has no clue whatsoever about Oakhurst/vampires.
They're both pretty similar kinds of weird little freaks and are definitely just flirting with each other 90% of the time.
By the time of the series, Sausage is no longer the famous writer he was and has instead faded from relevancy and lost a lot of respect from others, and presumably friends as an outcome of this. Despite this, Oli is not only still his friend, but was trying to help him. He was genuinely trying to help his friend, to stop his spiral, his descent into irrelevancy, and instead Sausage ended up suffering while stuck in the town Oli sent him to. Sausage made good friends in Oakhurst and had to bury them.
There's devotion, dedication, care, compassion, a certain level of being doomed.
Also flirty vampire that's kind of stupid x flirty human that's kind of stupid and pretty bad at surviving is a great dynamic.
I genuinely hate that I'm somewhat invested in this one.

Annoying guy x annoying guy. Sausage is an author and was college friends with Oliver Soundly, something was going on for sure. It'd be anachronistic for it to be otherwise.
Oli was in some sort of big trouble, possibly about to die but sent that letter to Sausage. Either they hadn't stayed in contact, and Oli sent that to someone he hadn't spoken to in years, or they did stay in contact, despite Sausage seeming to lose everyone else. I know what they are.

i think that neither sausage nor oli came from money, however sausage was famous enough for several years that he was convinced he was rich and that he would never run out of money. oli however didnt ever experience that, hes never been particularly famous or wealthy at all. sausage likes pretending hes olis sugar daddy and well. hes not entirely wrong
