Okay, so I have this bat mobile tent... it’s meant for like three year olds (I promise I’m not three). And I would love to see a one shot of the batboys being forced by marinette to go to Walmart, like the rest of us peasants. And they see this bat mobile tent and buy it... the rest is up to you, but I imagine Bruce just being really done with his sons.
This made me laugh, thank you.
Made it a bit pre-relationship Dickinette here, since I've never written for the ship before. The moments are very small though, so it shouldn't take away from the overall effect. Hope you don't mind!
Herding four boys in a Wal-Mart proved to be the opposite of a good time.
Sure, she figured they could use the humbling experience of having to go to the store and buy their own stuff for once, granted with a helping hand to reel them in on this first excursion, but what had she been thinking, bringing all of them at the same time?
Dick wandered off like an excited child every two seconds, finding something new to discover in every aisle, having grown up first in a traveling circus and secondly with a billionaire and therefore having exactly zero experience in the megastore.
Tim kept stopping unexpectedly, studying the back of containers or asking questions about different things he'd yet to encounter on his own, which made exactly no sense considering the teen frequented corner stores for energy drinks and snacks all the time.
Damian scoffed and loudly complained any time he deemed appropriate, which was always. Apparently everything here including the act of even shopping was far below him and he saw no reason to "lower himself to such trivial, commoner pastimes" as he put it. That did not stop the kid from drifting off into the pet section any time she turned her back for even a second.
Jason happened to be the only sane one amongst them for once, used to the process of shopping from when he was little, even if Wal-Mart was a step up from his usual convenience stores he used to have to steal from. He helped her reign in the others and itemize her list, not easily swayed from their end goal.
That all went out the window when they arrived in the toy section. Like mice found in the kitchen by a panicked human, they scattered out of sight within moments, leaving her to wonder where she got the bright idea to even pass this section. By now, she was so done.
She rounded a corner only to see Damian and Jason facing off from each side of the aisle, mounted on bikes too small for either of them, training wheels and all, with decorated poles in hand, joust style. Tim sat on top of the shelves to the right, looking down upon the two.
"Alright, I want a good, clean fight," Tim spoke solemnly, "No going for wheels or running into one another. Do not move until the signal has been given. Any contact beyond your poles will end in immediate disqualification, are we clear?" He watched both stare at him, blank faced, "Oh who am kidding, attack!"
The two pedaled as quickly as they could, Tim shouting encouragement from his perch. Marinette chose this moment to disappear, rounding into the next aisle.
There she found Dick, sitting on the floor, reading the back of a circular package, eyes intent. Approaching quietly, she peeked over his shoulder to see what he had found, only for his instincts to kick in. He grabbed her wrist where it hovered over his shoulder and twisted her forward where she began to fall. Noticing who it was, he quickly corrected mid-fall, landing her ungracefully in his lap.
"Whoops, sorry," he offered with a bright smile, arms holding her upright.
"You did that on purpose," she pouted with an accusatory glare.
"Now why would I ever do that?" He asked, wiggling his eyebrows, making her cherry red.
"Nevermind," she looked away, pulling herself up to stand again, her nerves getting the best of her, "what'd you find?"
His eyebrows creased at first from her response only to perk back up, grin widening at the reminder of his discovery. Dick held up package for her to see, watching her for her reaction. She did not disappoint.
At first, Marinette's face scrunched up in confusion at seeing the child's tent, only for a shocked sort of joy to take its place. Looking down to him once more, eyes wide with wonder and lips slightly parted, she looked down at him, "This is amazing. We have to get it."
Bruce had been having a wonderfully calm evening, relaxed in his quiet manner for once undisturbed by the reckless chaos of his children. He felt a certain type of immense gratitude for the young woman who took them all out for the evening, keeping the peace between the otherwise bickering siblings.
Turning the corner into the hallway, he stopped dead in his tracks. In front of him was a small, collapsible tent with a small skylight on the roof, blocking the path forward. Designed to look like the batmobile.
Taking a cautionary step forward, he wondered which one bought this monstrosity. Just then, Damian turned the corner on the opposite side of the hall.
"Drake! It is my turn with the tent. Remove yourself at once!"
A sleepy headed Tim peaked out of the top, looking as though he'd just woken up. Upon seeing the fast approaching child assassin, he acted fast, somehow standing up (legs out the entrance perhaps?) with his head through the top and his body beyond his legs covered in the tent, taking off away from the would be theif, flintstones style. Blinking, Bruce processed what he'd just witnessed only to let out a world weary sigh. Shoulders hunching inward in defeat, he turned back around, heading towards his study to lock himself in until morning. So much for peace and quiet.
In the next hall, Dick and Marinette giggled, shushing each other, pressing fingers to the other's lips in an attempt to silence them, but ultimately failing to contain their mirth at the show that just played out.
