i remember as cream puff, walnut constantly talked about roguefort and how she’s never actually seen them before (this was before the whole cheesecake manor event). in my 2nd or 3rd interaction with walnut, when she left, i saw roguefort and we talked so lol

#13 - Nuts for Nutkin

FFXIV 30 Day Writing Challenge Prompt #13 - Wounded Animal

This text actually takes place almost a year into the past now! It's the first day that Walnut, Nhaji's pet Nutkin, arrived at his new home - Nhaji's home!

She had taken a little while getting back to her apartment, not wanting to risk teleportation with such precious cargo. Hells, she barely even jogged any of the distance!

Locking the door shut behind her, Nhaji breathed out a sigh of relief... Home. It was always a little stressful, making her way up through the apartment building to her room, but thankfully there weren't too many people to walk past this time around.

Now that she's here, though, it'd probably be a good idea to let the little cutie out of his box.

Oh, she was grinning just thinking about it. She'd seen those eyes only for a moment, when the box was opened up to show her her gift, and twelve above were those eyes big. Big and beady and black and oh, she could've gotten lost in them. Why was he so cute and fluffy? It wasn't fair!

Alright, alright Nhaji focus. Pulling in another deep breath and letting out another sigh, she gently set the box in her hands onto the bench beside her, slowly lifted off its lid, and peered inside.

Resting within the shoebox-sized container, nestled into a pile of straw that had been used as bedding for the box itself, was a small, decidedly frail little Nutkin. It was hardly moving, though it shifted back a little as the roof of its little room was pulled off. Its movements were slow, beleaguered, most noticeably so due to one of it legs; for some reason or another, it seemed... Damaged. Whenever it tried to place weight against that leg, the poor Nutkin practically fell over. No, that leg really wasn't helping out in its little shuffling-back-in-fear shtick.

The sight brought a strange mixture of adoration and sadness to Nhaji's heart. Again, that little fluff-ball was absolutely adorable, but... Well, he seemed scared. Worse, that leg still seemed hurt. She'd been told he'd been caught in some kind of rudimentary trap, and that healing magicks probably weren't the best idea - her grip on them was loose at best anyway, so, that was probably for the best.

Frowning, the Xaela slowly, gingerly lowered a hand into the box, holding out a closed palm toward the little Nutkin, and let it open up to show its little payload: Sitting within the palm of Nhaji's hand, rested a single, slightly scratched walnut. It wasn't too big, but relatively it was almost the size of that Nutkin's entire head!

That staggering size didn't seem to deter the little creature though, that Nutkin latching right onto the offered walnut. The moment it did so it pulled the thing out and away from Nhaji's palm, tentatively holding it in against its chest. The gesture brought a little smile to that Xaela's lips: yeah, the Nutkin didn't really seem to trust her that much right now, but... Well, he seemed to have some amount of energy left, to be able to steal the walnut from out of her hand with such ease.

Speaking of energy though, those stores weren't going to last the poor Nutkin forever! Rifling about through her pockets for a moment, Nhaji slowly bought her hands back into that box, fingers closed to hide her palms...

The visual masking of their payload did little to hide the scnt though. The little beady nose of that Nutkin wiggled about fervently, sensing - and smelling - something good. Its gaze had fixated upon the hands that invaded its space again, watching, waiting...

And that waiting paid off rather quickly! Nhaji's hands opened up, revealing a small handful of various other, if smaller, assorted nuts and dried fruit. Nothing too fresh, but when you're travelling all the way to the Goblet... Well, fresh fruit wouldn't stay that way for long during the journey.

The Nutkin didn't seem to mind though. It went and snatched some of those dried fruit bits from Nhaji's hand, hiding them away within his now-slighly-bulging cheeks! Quiet, fervent chewing was the only noise that escaped from that box for a moment, the Nutkin grabbing at some of the offered food, stuffing it into its mouth, gulping the stuff down and repeating.

This went on for the better part of about ten minutes or so; he wasn't very large, and not just because he was in poor health at the moment! Nutkins were not known for being large creatures. The time that it took for him to have his meal didn't bother Nhaji though; it was just good to see him eating solid foods! Hum, she had started calling him a he. Well, there we go, he's male. Probably. Hopefully. Otherwise this uunspoken assumption would be pretty awkward for everybody involved - I.E., her.

Pulling her hands out from the box, Nhaji gently at at the sides of the thing, rubbing over its edges for a moment. She... Hmn. She had a pet. It was hurt at the moment and she hadn't named it, but it was already the best darn pet in the Realm, and she was going to give it a wonderful, fitting name in time.

....Or just name him after the Walnut he always, always carries around with him. That might happen too.

Who loved Daredevil? Most people, actually 99% of people. And how DARK WAS THAT PEOPLE?! Very fucking dark So when you fanboys say that DC Comic movies won’t be good because they’re too dark, stfu and look at Daredevil When it suits you it’s fine but other fandoms do it ‘shittttt better criticise because it could be on a par or greater than’ And please, please stop being a fucking walnut and learn to love everyone’s individual love!
