Can I just say that I love your blog and I love how you take the time to answer each ask with such detail. Idk if you remember my ask, but you asked me how tall I was because of my wand's length, I am 5'8" which I thought explained why my wand was so long, but then a friend of mine who's as tall as me got a wand that's two inches less than mine, why do you think that is?
aw thank you so much! i really love getting asks and going through all the different wand combinations especially! every wand really is unique :)
i do remember your ask! you are tall! or at least… tall to me. :) personality factors into wand length a bit - for instance, it’s hinted at that dolores umbridge’s wand is short not only because she’s short (since there are certainly other characters who are short and don’t have as small a wand as she has), but because there’s something lacking in her personality. also, gilderoy lockhart, who i believe is at least average height if not a bit tall, has (had? since ron tossed it out the window n all) a wand that is 9 inches - only one inch bigger than umbridge’s!
i like to believe too (and this is not based in the canon whatsoever, unlike most of what i post here), that a person’s personal style can factor into wand length, too.
if you picture a wand a bit like a conductor’s baton (ala this one), then you might see what i mean when i say personal style comes into play a bit. most batons come between 10 and 26 inches and i think that’s pretty close to the range for wands, which (as far as i’ve seen) range from about 8 to 16-maybe 20 inches. if you think about what might turn a person to choose between a longer conducting baton and a shorter one, you might get an idea of the kind of magic a longer or shorter wand might produce and thus an idea of the personality types that may be drawn to a longer or shorter wand.
anyway… my short answer is that wand length certainly has something to do with personality as well as height. :)
Hermione: What's going on?
Ron: His is bigger than mine
Harry: It's mine, it's mine. You can't take it off me!
Ron: Watch me try! *lunges at Harry's pants*
Hermione: Boys, boys! I knew you were immature, but this! Why are you talking about genitals anyway?!
*Both Harry and Ron freeze*
Harry: Genitals? Wait, you thought- *backs away from Ron* Eww. Hermione we were talking about wand size
Hermione: Oh...Obliviate! Obliviate!
Ron: ..What were we talking about?
Hermione: You were going to buy me chocolate
