poor bby looks so tired
heyy im not really deep into the svu fandom but i do love rafael and raul esparza so i was reading your latest reblog and wondering what leight had to do with his departure from the show and the way he's been written ever since?? i wanna properly hate him along with my fellow svu/barba stans
Leight moved out at the end of 17th season. After that all "Barba vs corrupted Rikers' CEOs" storyline was thrown in the trash.
I believe 18.01 was supposed to be the end of 17.22-17.23 stories including Barba's injury or even death. But writers couldn't risk so much so they went safe way.
And...
They fucked up all his character in the first fucking non-Leight episode!
Barba, man who was against politics and did what was right suddenly became a man who prosecutes woman for political reasons. What the actual fuck?
They even used his "Is she credible?" line from his first episode to trick viewers into thinking that they know what they are doing. What a cheap and impotent move lol.
Any ficriter puts more effort in pwp oneshot than this fulltime job writers.
Warren Leigh made Barba great again (no pun intended) in 23th season and made him a beautiful goodbye in "Final Call".
This is not perfect but this is all he (Pulitzer Prize winner for minute) can do after all this thrash in 19.13.
1 and 25 for the ask game !!
1. the character everyone gets wrong
This is a hard one because I truly don’t think anyone knows these characters as I do/hj but if I had choose, it would be Amanda Rollins. They boil her down to her worst moments, the moments where she’s obviously going through a lot of trauma, stress, anxiety. They also don’t take into account that she actually tries to get better, she apologizes, she takes accountability.
25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
That Warren alright ruined the show. I personally love the Leight years, mainly because I was full conscious during his time as showrunner. I was 12 and could fully enjoy the show, but also just because he made Olivia Benson into this fucking warrior of a woman. Don’t get me wrong, she was a strong character before, but he let her grow into this woman, this character who wanted more than just the job.
She was allowed to date, she became a mother, she rose up the chain of command, and she did it while never straying from who she was. She found a real family during his run as a showrunner, and it wasn’t just her. Amanda became a mother, she started to address her trauma, he gave us the slow burn that was rollisi which was so pure and beautiful. He gave us Carisi, he gave us Amaro, Barba, fully-fleshed out characters. Fin got to become a grandpa, he got to become Olivia’s second in command. The show just felt so full when he was showrunner.
Anyways, here’s a fic that I found about Warren Leight and his impact on the show that made me giggle

Again, this is the anticipated broadcast network TV (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, etc.) fall season timeline, given the possible SAG-AFTRA + WGA strike on July 1st.
Late night shows will return first.
If writing resumes in September, shooting might begin early/mid October. Episodes will most likely air starting in Jan 2024.
Networks can't afford a strike until December. The longer [the] strike goes, the more it will benefit deep-pocketed streamers who are trying to put the networks out of business. If networks don't cut a deal on mini rooms, and streaming $, they'll lose a season, and streamers will replace them.

warren leight and william lewis sharing the same initials is not a coincidence and is a further attempt to remind viewers that olivia benson's character suffered from a severe shift towards performative healing that was purely orchestrated for the male gaze. the dichotomy between her being seen as ultimately 'unfuckable' at the hands of a psychopathic rapist; and yet somehow depicted as sexually transgressive by becoming a single mother of an adopted son by the showrunner is a yet another reminder of the constant and problematic misogynistic undertones in svu 2.0. in this essay i will
