Mongul

The menace known as Mongul heralds from an alien world and possesses vast powers, including hugely enhanced strength and durability.  Following his exile from his home world, Mongul sought out and took over the mobil weapons engine known as ‘Warwold,’  

As the lord of Warworld, Mongul orchestrated gladiatorial games where alien combatants were abducted and pitted against one another for the entertainment of Mongul and his various minions.  

Superman ended up abducted in this fashion and would go on to lead a revolution among Mongul’s slave combatants that forced Mongul to flee Warworld.    The villain would later resurface looking for vengeance, leading to subsequent battles against Superman as well as fights with The Green Lantern, The Flash, The Martian Manhunter and the Darkstars.  Mongul briefly ruled the Yellow Lantern Corps before he was defeated by Sinestro.  

Mongul has fathered a number of children over the years.  His sons have all been named Mongul while his sole daughter was named Mongal.  Mongul has seemingly perished on occasion, where upon his son or daughter has assumed his place as a would-be interstellar conquerer.  Upon his return, Mongul usually slaughters his children for having dared to attempt to replace him.    

Mongul has featured in a number of animated projects, voiced by actors Eric Roberts, Gary Anthony Williams, John DiMaggio and Keith David. The villain first appeared in the pages of DC Comics Present #27 (1980).

Why is Rodimus the only Matrix-bearer to revert back to his old self when he’s separated from the Matrix?

Dear Mystical Metamorphosis,

Well, it’s rare for the Matrix to induce a physical transformation in the first place—except as a side-effect of some kind of catalyzing factor. For example, when Galvatron’s servant Scourge bore the Matrix, it triggered an allergic reaction in his Unicronian biology, causing his alloys to swell and buckle. And when Starscream used the Creation Matrix to merge with Bludgeon’s Warworld, his body and mind both expanded into its systems. In either case, losing the Matrix reversed these effects. You’re right, however, that the changes experienced by Rodimus were unusual. Perhaps he had a particularly strong affinity with the Matrix. I can only speculate—Primus works in mysterious ways.

When referring to our Sparks or personality components, Rungian analysts at times refer to "the transformation that can be seen" (our physical transformations), as well as the lesser-known "the transformation that cannot be seen", an inner change that is perhaps like the "shadow" of your psyche. They would have it that the Matrix is capable of spurring both seen and unseen transformations, and that some bearers may only experience one or the other. These changes may take place on a cosmological timescale—only observable across many human lifetimes.

For Hot Rod, his youthful rule-breaking and fiery impulses were met with his shadow: the weight of responsibility and disillusionment that can accompany wisdom and age. As great as Rodimus Prime's physical power became, contending with his shadow was a still greater struggle—and even once parted from the Matrix, unlike the evolution of the body, the inner transformation was irreversible.

a random sampling of the Flash of the Tangent Comics through the decades

The Nineties- Flash #1

Readers are introduced to Lia Nelson, also know as Flash, for the first time. The first baby born in space, it was either that or the cosmic rocks or the space radiation storm, but she was born a living being of light, able to move at its speeds and basically do whatever she wants with it. Raised in the spotlight, she still manages to be a rather bubbly teenage girl.

The Aughts- Justice League of America #16, & Superman's Reign #1

Lia becomes stranded in the main DC universe after the events of Infinite Crisis and, and eventually kicks off the twelve issues crossover series Superman's Reign while asking the Justice League to help her get home. She connects well with Barry, and has regularly popped up in Flash family crossover books in the years since.

The Teens- Convergence: Justice League of America #1, & The Flash #52

Lia, along with her teammates in the Secret Six, was one of the heroes plucked from out of time by Brainiac to participate in the City Wars during the Convergence event, facing off against an iteration of the Justice League. Later, she would go back to occasionally popping up to help other Flashes of the multiverse in the pages of Barry's monthly book.

The Twenties- Superman and the Authority #3, & Action Comics #1037

Most recently, Lia was stranded in the main DC universe once again, after the events of Dark Nights: Death Medal tore down and then rebuilt the multiverse. Sporting a new look, reduced powers, and adopting the superhero name Lightray, she is scouted by Superman for his new iteration of The Authority, and joins the team as they venture to Warworld as part of the nearly 30 issue Action Comics epic.

She is joined by her heavy hitting, cybernetically enhanced transmasc he/they partner, O.M.A.C., aka Mac, who also hails from the Tangent universe and insists on venturing anywhere Lia goes, the pair practically bonded at the hip.
