What we know now as the Book Building/Tower complex was originally supposed to be even more. The Book brothers, in tandem with architect Louis Kamper, set out to create a mega-structure on Washington Boulevard. In addition to the 13-story Book Building (1917) and the towering 38-story Book Tower, plans were made for a unfathomable 81-story Book Tower, making it the tallest office building in the world. Unfortunately, the economic disaster of 1929 ended that dream.
