How to watch Big Hero 6 in chronological order
Alright, this post is solely for the BH6 watch order, so let’s get into it.
1: Big Hero 6 movie (of course)
2: Big Hero 6 the series season 1
Pay attention, cuz this is where the fun begins 😉
You watch the series as ordered on Disney+, except for near the end. Wasabi’s car means that it goes Big Problem, The Bot Fighter, Obake Yashiki, Steamer’s Revenge, Big Hero 7 and then Countdown to Catastrophe.
The shorts (Baymax &) you just can watch by release date in correlation with the episodes. But we’re not done with all the shorts yet so hang in there. But first; let’s cover the (out of print) IDW comics.
I have NOT read them (long story but overall I have fanfic alternates to reading the last three at least). But I do know when they take place per panels online. Basically, if Go Go wasn’t truly outran til Fan Friction and if NBB had gone rogue before Issue 1, then the comics occur sometime between Killer App and Fan Friction; as Go Go wouldn’t be truly outskated until Supersonic Sue)
Baymax Dreams eps 1-3 seem to occur between Countdown and Internabout per Obake Baymax in ep 1. Anywho, we’ll get back to Baymax Dreams later
Season 2A; City of Monsters
Well first, the Baymax & Mochi shorts. Those are ambiguous. It’s either by release date (correlation with Season 2A’s eps) or in season 1 per spring like setting.
Back to 2A, basically as is. Season 2B on the other hands, well there’s more than meets the eye.
Between The Present and Hiro the Villain is when you watch Baymax! (Per my timeline post a while back).
Well I don’t think theres much more to say here, so onto Season 3!
Baymax Dreams eps correlate release date wise with season 3 eps. However it can be argued that last two eps take place after “Big Chibi 6@ per the penultimate episode “Baymax Dreams Of Too Many Fred’s” having a memory from Hardlight’s debut episode (or maybe after Dog Craze of Summer since said memory is Hiro playing a video game in that ep as well but it’s arguable).
And that’s the timeline! (Not counting KH3 which I chose not to cover) :D
I hope that if anyone decides to binge through the series or maybe, just maybe; use this as a list for themselves/someone for their reaction vids, I hope they enjoy the show 🥰
The viewing order for this franchise is so confusing.
Ever wanted to get into Nanoha in the year of our Sankt Kaiser, 2025?
You haven't?
Too bad I wrote this anyway :>
Here to educate those who want to get into the series for the first time and save others the time of explaining how the heck to catch up for the new upcoming works, a watch order blog post with explanations!
A One Stop Shop for all of your neurodivergent Baked Bimbo needs
Don't worry, it's still just an elaborate way of saying "Watch the Chronological release order".
FMA watch order can be a confusing subject if you’re new and trying to get into the series.
On paper I agree with the route of watching 03 up to at least the point where it diverges from the manga and then watching Brotherhood, but in practice many potential fans balk at the prospect of having to watch so many of the same story beats adapted twice right out of the gate (understandably). A lot of people will end up just watching Brotherhood first because of this, which again is understandable.
I have one suggestion for people who are considering only watching Brotherhood to avoid all that hassle: Watch the first two episodes of 03.
Hell, you can even watch just the first episode if you feel like it, but it’s effectively a two parter so I wouldn’t really recommend it.
03 has one of if not the best opening episode(s) of any tv show I’ve ever seen. Brotherhood’s first episode is the worst part of that entire show.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not terrible or anything, I wouldn’t say it’s even bad, it’s just bog standard, the issue being that the rest of the Brotherhood is really good (apart from how it rushes over most of the story beats 03 already covered). In comparison to the rest of the show it’s a pretty bad first impression.
(Because of this I also really recommend the first two episodes of 03 to people who tried to watch Brotherhood but weren’t hooked and dropped the show. That’s actually how I ended up watching 03 for the first time myself).
A significant portion of early Brotherhood is executed worse than it was in 03 by design, but all those parts still mostly work, they’re just rushed. The biggest gap in quality imo is between their introductory episodes. Watching one or two extra episodes is a lot less of a time sink than watching a dozen or so of them, and it’s not like you’ll be missing context since it’s literally the first two episodes. It helps a lot that said two episodes are absolutely stellar.
You will still see a couple story beats repeated, but they’re so condensed in Brotherhood that you’ll only have to endure a single episode of it, and imo the worst part of that experience isn’t the redundancy of it, it’s the pain of watching something amazing being redone kind of blandly.
Toilet Bound Hanako-kun Anime Watch Guide
Made this guide to watching the anime as manga-accurately as possible! This can also be for those of you who read the manga but want to watch the anime without being annoyed that it's in a different order, lol.
(PDF of the guide linked here)
For context, the first season was lower budget- Many people still enjoyed it, but the arcs are in a different order than the manga because they didn't expect to have a second season. (The animation is also incredibly limited and memed on within the fandom regularly). Of course, you can also watch the anime in the release order and then read the manga if that's your preference! The anime itself doesn't expect you to follow the order the arcs are in within the manga, and does its best at balancing its weird order lol.
I've added notes if you want to watch the spinoff (after school hanako kun) at the same time as the main story! It is mostly light hearted and silly as additional characterization, so it's really not necessary if you're more of a plot-fiend. Otherwise, I'd suggest watching it after catching up with the episodes that are out already to avoid spoilers :)
Watch order:
S1 E1: Hanako-san of the Bathroom
S1 E2: Yousei-san
(You can watch E1 of After School at this point!)
S1 E3: The Masaki Stairs P1
S1 E4: The Masaki Stairs P2
S1 E5: The Confession Tree
Young Exorcist arc (manga only)
This is the only crucial arc the anime has entirely skipped over (I will come back to update this list if this changes, lol). If you're a fan of Kou and his brother as well as Hanako himself, I'd highly HIGHLY recommend reading this arc in the manga, as it's really important for Kou's character set up and internal conflicts. This arc spans chapters 9 and 10 (Volume 2), and can be read online for free officially through bato or mangaup! The anime is made to be watched on its own, so skipping this won't affect your watching experience- but it does take a lot away from the characters.
S1 E6: The 4pm Library
(You can watch E3 of After school at this point!)
S1 E7: Donuts
Here's where the anime timing gets a little complicated, as the episode adaptation of the next chapter is the seasons "ending" and has references and spoilers for later arcs 😭
Your options:
A) admit defeat to the anime timeline, skip to the next episode in the list OR watch EP12 entirely and see spoilers for a much later arc
B) If you're really determined to keep it manga-accurate:
S1 E12: The Little Mermaid, start 6:13 min in, end at 20:43. The first skipped scene should be watched after the hell of mirrors arc. The second skipped scene should be after Summer Lights. Skipping these entirely won't leave out crucial context, but it helps the narrative to be smoother.
S1 E8: Mitsuba - Note that the anime particularly likes to shorten character building moments for time, so if you'd like to read this in the manga for more about Mitsuba's character motivations, it's chapters 18-20 (Vol5). There's not a lot of extra content, but Mitsuba is a fan favorite and many anime-only watchers miss a bit of nuance within his character :)
(You can watch E5 of the spinoff at this point)
S1 E9: Tea Party
(I'd suggest E7:After School Mokke/After School Cafe here for hanako's character arc build up in s2!)
S2 E1: Hanako Kun of the Bathroom - Note that this episode has a s1 recap. Skip this section (3:45-4:45) to avoid spoilers for the next arc. You can also skip the s2 opening if you REALLY don't want any visuals spoiled.
S2 E2: The Three Clock Keepers
S2 E3: Lost and Found - Note at 10:25 Kou has a flashback regarding the Hell of Mirrors arc briefly. If you care about visual spoilers I'd skip a few seconds or just look away from the visuals LOL
S1 E10-11: The Hell of Mirrors
(This is where you can/probably should go back and watch the first of the little mermaid episode for additional context, or watch the little mermaid episode entirely if you skipped it!).
(Also, the entirety of after school is now available to you with no spoilers!)
Congratulations, you're caught up with the tbhk anime so far in manga order! If they mess with the order of things more/skip more arcs I'll come back to this and update it, but as of right now S2 is still airing so I can't be sure! Feel free to watch the episodes as they're released now :)
If you disagree with this order/have additional corrections please let me know! You can always check the wiki for the order of the manga chapters!
