probs not a professional gamer
...
cherry’s livestream begins at maximum volume and approximately zero preparation. the stream opens with her way too close to the camera, eyes wide with excitement as she accidentally starts broadcasting before she means to. “wait—are we live?” she gasps dramatically, disappears from frame for five seconds, then comes back holding a drink she absolutely forgot she was carrying. “okay. hi. i’m professional,” she says with complete confidence, nearly knocking something off her desk immediately after.
tonight’s victim, according to her, is pokémon pokopia. “i’ve never played this before,” she announces proudly. “but if you’ve seen my youtube channel, i’m great at trying new things” there’s a bit of silence as cherry reads the comments “why is everyone calling me a liar?”. the entire chat collectively prepares for disaster.
within ten minutes, cherry has somehow misunderstood at least three tutorials, skipped important dialogue because “reading is stressful,” and accidentally convinced herself she understands mechanics that absolutely do not work the way she thinks they do. “no, no, i get it,” she says, nodding seriously. “the pokémon can sense confidence.” a pause. “that’s science.” her gameplay style is best described as loud guessing, every decision is made with complete confidence and almost never correctly.
“ohhh, this way definitely leads somewhere important,” she says, immediately walking into a dead end. silence. “…okay the game is gaslighting me.” whenever something mildly inconvenient happens, cherry reacts like she’s in a life-or-death movie scene. a tiny in-game surprise causes her to physically jolt backward. “hello?? why would they do that?” chat clips it instantly. at one point, she spends fifteen full minutes trying to solve an extremely easy puzzle while refusing every helpful hint. “i don’t need help,” she insists. three minutes later: “okay. i need emotional support.”
fans are laughing by now because cherry somehow turns every mistake into a comedy routine without even trying. she gives random pokémon bizarre nicknames that make no sense (“you look unemployed… your name is tuesday”), forgets objectives immediately after reading them, and confidently invents fake game lore whenever she gets confused. “no because i think this guy is evil,” she says, pointing at a completely harmless npc. “cherry that is literally the shop owner” the chat replies with.
“oh.”
despite being chaotic beyond belief, she’s constantly talking to chat, shouting out usernames dramatically, making up little stories, and laughing so hard at herself that sometimes she has to pause the game. she treats every tiny achievement like she won an international championship. “guys did you see that?” she yells after completing something designed for beginners. “i’m actually insane at this.” the chat, meanwhile, is busy counting how many times she got lost. near the end of the stream, after somehow turning a simple task into a two-hour adventure, she leans back dramatically.
“i think,” she says, completely serious, “i’m a gaming genius.” the chat immediately floods with questions asking if cherry knows what “genuis” means. cherry squints at the messages. “…you guys are jealous because i think outside the box.” someone points out she never found the box to begin with. she laughs so hard she accidentally ends the stream.
