I dislike plenty of decisions made with regards to Admiral Holdo, both in universe and out. But her handling of Poe is one of my favorite parts of the movie. Maybe I'm just a weak touch for protagonists suffering actual consequences for their actions, and I adore Poe, but him being shut out of the top secret plans when literally that morning he disobeyed direct orders and got everyone killed was kind of satisfying after a lifetime of that kind of cowboy nonsense being either ignored or rewarded.
I think a little cowboy nonsense was warranted. In battle you have to be decisive and take risks. But that doesn’t always translate well into non-battle situations especially when the person in question is under stress like Poe was.
And again, he should have been put on bed rest! And Leia definitely shouldn’t have slapped him (though the demotion was called for)! I know she’s stressed too and he did disobey orders to the cost of people’s lives. But a CO should never strike a subordinate (except in self defense).
But then again, Carrie Fisher got to live my dream of trying to slap the handsome out of Oscar Isaac, so maybe there’s some good. It’s a futile effort, but still
