This Overnight Pecan Praline French Toast is a delightful make-ahead breakfast option, perfect for special occasions or lazy weekend mornings. The sweet and nutty pecan praline topping adds a unique twist to classic French toast. Simply prepare it the night before and bake it in the morning for a hassle-free and indulgent breakfast experience.
Ingredients: 1/2 cup unsalted butter. 1 cup packed brown sugar. 2 tablespoons light corn syrup. 1 cup chopped pecans. 1 loaf French bread day-old or stale is best. 6 large eggs. 1 1/2 cups whole milk. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon. 1/4 teaspoon salt. 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg optional. Powdered sugar for dusting, optional. Maple syrup for serving, optional.
Instructions: In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and light corn syrup until well combined. Bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from heat and stir in the chopped pecans. Pour the pecan praline mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly. Slice the French bread into 1-inch thick slices and arrange them in the baking dish on top of the pecan praline mixture. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg if using. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, making sure all slices are soaked. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate it overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the bread to absorb the liquid. The next morning, preheat your oven to 350F 175C. Remove the plastic wrap from the baking dish and bake the French toast for 35-40 minutes, or until it is golden brown and set in the center. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. To serve, you can dust the French toast with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup if desired. Enjoy your delicious overnight pecan praline French toast!
