#weirdathon #tbr #books (7/7): the #comics / #graphicnovel edition! Teddy: the protector of children by #dangoh & #christophergerald, ghosts/aliens by #treyhamburger, cruddy: an illustrated novel by #lyndabarry, and #beautycomic volumes 1-6 by #jeremyhaun, #jasonahurley & #johnrauch. Teddy is a #comic about the stuffed animal who helps his owner conquer his inner fears and nightmares. Love this concept! Ghost/aliens is the chronicle of two amateur scientists who investigate the teleportation of a hot pocket. The format is #bizarre. Like much of the #book has word bubbles from a car. Just #strange shit. But this looks funny af so I'm game Cruddy is written by one of my favorite tumblrs and cartoonists, Lynda Barry. This is an account of 16 year old Roberta rohbeson, who just got busted for dropping acid in 1971, but here she finally writes about a different account which she kept silent about since she was 11. Revenge, greed, a bar/slaughterhouse, and runaway adolescents. Horrible scenes made hilarious apparently. This is going to be incredible. In #thebeauty, those who contract an STD become more and more beautiful and perfect everyday. Then one day, one of them spontaneously combusts. Two detectives investigate the death and those that follow after. I adore how every cover features a gorgeous corpse. This is so good. I highly doubt I'll finish all 7 stacks within a month. There's a total of 29 tomes. I'll be lucky if I finish 1/3 my dude. But I'm gonna finish off "when fox is a thousand" first. Then pull one after another from different piles and try to switch between genders to keep this changing and wide-ranging. Second one will be the significant objects anthology. #weirdathon #tbr #books (3/7): the #anthology edition haha: #significantobjects: 100 extraordinary stories about ordinary things edited by #joshuaglenn & #robwalker, #machineofdeath: a collection of #stories about people who know how they will die edited by #ryannorth, #matthewbennardo & #davidmalki, the @morbidanatomy anthology edited by #joannaebenstein & #colindickey, and my mother she killed me, my father he ate me: forty new fairy tales edited by #katebernheimer. Significant objects is an interesting experiment where writers wrote stories about unimpressive, mundane objects found at thrift stories and yard sales. Then items that were bought for $1 sold for THOUSANDS on eBay! Yowza! You get to read the #stories and stats here. The machine takes a blood sample and tells the user how they will die. These are the stories. What an awesome premise! And because you got this far in the post, @topatoco is having a HUGE #sale as machine of death is celebrating their 10 year anniversary (whoa). For only a sawbuck each, you can get this book, it's sequel, the storytelling card game where you have to figure out how your target dies, and its immense expansion set! I just bought the sequel and the games for $38 including shipping! What a steal! The morbid anatomy anthology contains #essays from lectures that took place at the museum itself. They're beautifully illustrated with macabre topics like catacombs, books made from human skin, death-themed Parisian cafes, post-Mortem photography, a truck stop populated with human skulls, and more. You cannot get any weirder than that. The fairy tales book contains stories from #aimeebender #neilgaiman #joycecaroloates and more! #fairytales have always been the quintessential #weird and I'm thrilled to have this 👽 #topatoco #bookathon #bookstagram

#weirdathon #tbr #books (2/7): since #march is #womenshistorymonth, I wanted to read more female written books but it looks these stacks have more men than women 😰. I will rectify it by reading more female works online and promoting them on my tumblr and Facebook everyday. I should cull it, esp since there's more white men, but I don't want to. Is that bad? Anyway here are the books: the compleat purge by #trishalow, NW by #zadiesmith, double game by #sophiecalle, and #everythingeverythingbook by @nicolayoon. The compleat purge starts off with a suicide note and will, starting from the age of 7. Then you read emails, lists, diary entries, erotic fan fiction, transcripts and more. This looks like Such a trip. NW is freestyle #fiction writing: vignettes, voices, poetry, IMs, bedroom preferences and so much more. They're succinct and by the looks of it, utterly #strange. YESSSS So #paulauster made a fictitious version of Sophie Calle named Maria for his #novel Leviathan. And the brilliant Sophie decided to make that novel u to her own game, mixing reality and fiction. She follows the rituals of Maria, then you read the works and texts of Calle that Maria appropriates in the novel, and finally she receives personalized instructions from Auster called "how to improve life in New York City". No wonder he based a fictional character after her, damn. #everythingeverything is about Mandy who is literally allergic to everything and her neighbor olly who moves next door. Composed by vignettes, illustrations, diary entries and much more, this is quite the inventive debut. Plus it was illustrated by yoon's husband David. That's awesome and I want to do that with my future boyfriend! What a variety but I cannot wait to dive the fuck in 🏊🏼 #bookstagram #bookathon #nicolayoon

#weirdathon started yesterday and I haven't read anything for it yet! Run by the kickass book blogger @_ulianne, you spend the month of March reading nothing but #weird #books. SO up my alley! here's my #tbr and here's (1/7) [because I'm that obsessed and foolhardy haha]: these are uber cool #apps from #suddenoakbooks and an enhanced #ebook: #thepickleindex, #thesilenthistory, #thenewworld all made by #elihorowitz tho I have the dual pickle index books already so I'll skip that e version for this month. And the ebook on the right is "how to live safely in a science fictional universe" by #charlesyu. These apps are pretty interesting. Pickle index is a ten day experience with up voting, reader participation, MINI GAMES, and more! The silent history is about a generation of children born with silence: they can't speak or comprehend language or do much human interaction. You will read the oral testimonies of their caretakers, preachers, teachers, cult leaders, and more. Plus if you go to a certain location, you can gain access to a story that takes place in that locale. I need to use this once I'm in NYC again. The new world is about a couple who fight for Their love. After her husband dies, she finds his headless body and that he has secretly joined a shadowy cryogenics company. She now tries to retrieve his head. And after his death he wakes up centuries later, and has to decide whether he'll give up his memories of her to rejoin society. You swipe through backwards and forwards and the colors meld and melt into each other. Utterly nifty. I loved "sorry please thank you" and "third class superhero" so I'm greatly looking forward to charles yu's first novel. There's hyperlinks, video, and audio and an additional short story so yay! I haven't read an ebook in my #kindle in over a year probably. I need to rectify that. I can't wait to dive in these electronic worlds!
