'Aoi Blink'
[PCE] [JAPAN] [MAGAZINE] [1990]
"Based on the animated work of the great mangaka Osamu Tezuka, Aoi Blink is immediately striking with its non-linear progression. Its hero, named Kakeru, crosses many levels with several exits, which lead to various branches that can be consulted by a world map reminiscent of the Mario games. Another original element: a group of protagonists with various skills and properties accompanies him during his journey, and it will be a question of combining them in order to find the keys that will allow him to advance towards the boss of the area. Simplistic, but very neat, this title never takes itself to seriously, and can be enjoyed as a small relaxing stroll with friends." ~The PC Engine / Turbografx-16 & PC-FX Anthology

Willy Wombat
While Westone are best known for their Wonder Boy/Monster World series of action-RPG platformers, they’ve dabbled in plenty other genres over the years. It was made specifically as a Sonic-esque game for Hudson Soft to release in North America, but ended up coming out exclusively in Japan. That’s a shame, since it’s a solid adventure containing some interesting ideas mixed with frustrating issues.
