Nightwing is a great example of a fighter who has weapons designed to create and maintain distance (long escrima sticks, sometimes electrified) who does not give a fuck about distance at all and gets up IN someone else’s guard and uses that to choke/throw/etc up close.

i don’t know that i can put my thoughts about the first episode into coherent words but what i will say is that my favorite scene in the entire thing was the first one, which feels a bit bittersweet seeing as it’s so drastically different in tone compared to what follows. it was so beautifully shot and constructed and i wanted to live in that room of burning treasures and glass boxes and coy glances and unspoken tension and missing pieces in the form of an eye and a leg and the way it felt like almost an intrusion by the audience, seeing these characters so vulnerable and bare, so altered and yet so them and just. i’ll be thinking about it for a very long time.

back on my creepy (affectionate) Gambit propoganda. reading his debut comic for the first time and realised the original reason hes called Le Diablo Blanc is probably because hes the silver-tongued devil. like, red eyes, flirtatious, unsettling but handsome, a gambler/deal maker, if he talks he can hypnotise you, but he loses power over someone if they know about it. it is a crime that i didnt know he had low-level hypnotism/coersive powers until now. anyway now please listen to Devil in Disguise by Marino and think of Gambit. thank you.

Mrs. Westenra employs two different harmful gendered expectations at once:

Lucy, an upper-class woman, is assumed to be too fragile to be treated like an adult. Then, add in a chronic condition that makes people around her treat her even more like a child.

Mina, a working class woman who is the same age, is expected to take on the burden of everyone's emotions and secrets. Because of her background, she is assumed to be more mature and capable.

Both of these things are harmful. Lucy is missing important information about her own family. Mina is doing way too much emotional labor while still being worried sick about Jonathan.

Honest statement about the latest Fourever You? My problem was not the neck kissing or shorts lust or anything. Arthit apologized for that! It was when he basically forced himself into Dao's room and refused to let go of him even when Dao made it clear that he was uncomfortable and did not like that. Because he never apologized for that. Arthit never even acknowledged that. Everything else? He was aware of what he did wrong and faced it fully.

But that first scene?

That first part?

Where he grabbed Dao and held on and refused to let go? And kept grabbing him even after he said to let go and that he didn't like it and that it made him uncomfortable? That part? That's what bothered me the most.

Literally everything else got aknowledged or apologized for or spoken of or at least recognized for what it is. But not the grabbing! Arthit just tried to turn that into light, silly teasing and simply ignored everything Dao said and that's what I can't escape.

And that's so frustrating because the REST was so well done! And so well handled! But the part that wasn't always ends up haunting me.
