This is one of my favorite pictures of the three Uptons! Pictured is Upton Jr. (Left), Upton Sr. (Middle) holding @cutesophialoren , and Upton lll (Right). Today, July 16th, 102 yr. old Upton Sinclair Ethelbah passed away. He was the oldest member of the White Mountain Apache Tribe. He really loved Sophia. He knew her as, "the little dog who loves bacon." He loved to feed Sophia bacon and a little vanilla ice cream when we all got together at @villageinn Rest In Peace "Tata". “7/1/64” If you lose yourself in the White Mountains near Show Low, Arizona you might come across the White Mountain Apache Tribe’s abandoned Paradise Youth Camp. Built in 1962 to keep Apache boys out of trouble and away from drugs and alcohol over the summer. Here you’ll find 2 dozen small teepee shaped rooms that housed 2 campers and blend perfectly into the surrounding woods. There’s 2 main bathroom houses with showers & toilets. In the back you’ll find the main log hall building that holds the cafeteria, tables, fireplace, & kitchen. This abandoned place is in great shape with very little graffiti & vandalism. Probably dude to the fact that it’s so far off any major road. Campers here maintained the dirt roads & keep the camp clean. Other activities that they partook in was basketball, bingo, softball, fishing, volleyballs & dances with the separate girls camp. Paradise Youth Camp has sat abandoned since the late 1980’s. It’s been somewhat taken care of since some of the teepees are boarded up. The only article I could find was on wmapache.com that stated in 2011 they where planing on reopening the camp.
