Whumpmas in July - Day 4

Day 4: Share a TV Show, movie, story, or any media that gives you the whumperflies What is your go-to media for whump? Is there a particular show or movie full of those good ol’ whumpings? Or is there just one moment in a story that always gives you those lovely feelings? Feel free to share your favorite medias full of the whumpy feels, or your favorite moments in those medias. Old or new, tell us all about the whumpy media you enjoy and why!

WIJ #4 - Whumpy Media

I’ve gotta say things I haven’t said before and it’s SO tricky because I am loud about the things that I like within the context of whump (and also because i just posted fifteen things that I love), so I’ve come up with an additional four:

The Angelfall series, which I read ages ago and have not revisited in a long time, but fallen angel whumpee and also wing amputation and... jklfjekl jfcqjf. That was all good stuff.

Also I explicitly remember in one of the Vampire Academy books something terrible happens to the love interest at the end of one of the books (maybe at the end of book 2?) and that stuck with me. 

Also also, the entirety of The Darkness Outside Us which is my top legitimate recommendation for something to read if you like queer media and whump. It is SO good. The other two are like, maybe sketchy recs, but this one is a must read!

Okay and lastly, my beloved Daredevil from Netflix who is coming back with a bang but it might be a less gritty bang. If you want some top shelf whump and can stand (visually) dark media, so much whumperflies always in that show.

Whumpmas In July 2022 Day 4: Media that gave you whumperflies

I have to say, the Stage Play adaptation of Storm Bringer was spot on for all those lovely whumperflies!  Chuuya - god he has such a good scream.  It sounds so raw and pained and twists the insides in all the right ways.  It’s all those particular whumpy hitches and hurt noises that bring it home, and they have to be the right ones.

The ease with which Verlaine is able to overwhelm him, his captivity and torture in that tank, the utter hurt and pain in his face, heck, the ease with which Adam just picks short Chuuya up and carts him around like so much luggage.

The pain and loss in his expression from the deaths of his friends.  The way his mouth twists and he looks up like he’s trying not to cry.  The moments where he’s surrounded by all the antagonists, simply unable to resist fate no matter how hard he tries.

STORM BRINGER IS SOOOO GOOOOOOOD.

Whumpy Shows 'n' Stuff

I mentioned in the first two wij posts that vampire knight served as my gateway into understanding whump as a concept, but it remains, to this very day, the whumpiest shit I've ever watched.

It's not perfect (far from it), but at least for me, Zero suffering and angsting in every single episode was totally worth it.

Ofc, if you're tired of me harping on about Vampire Knight, Danny Phantom is also concerningly... there. Canonically, some fucked up shit happened and whoops, there were some whumperflies in there, whoops -sweats- Listen, it has so many parallels to my favourite whump shit ok--

Oh yeah, and the fandom is far worse (in terms of traumatising the bbies), and even better because they age him up for all the horrible things they do to him lmao. There is SO much fanfic and fan art and fan-made content (that is often better than the source material), and the whole community is like us-- super friendly, and still going strong to this day (despite the original show running from 2004-2007).

It's very cool, 10/10 would recommend!

If animation isn't your style, Daredevil is also pretty fun :)) I've not watched it all the way through yet (I made it pretty far tho), but Matt Murdock all beat up and angstily trying to hide his secret is pretty damn fun >:D

Day 4: Share a TV show, movie, story, or any media that gives you the whumperflies

Theres a good few, but thinking now I would like to say “The Skin I Lived In” gave me a LOT of those feelings, but it was also very triggering and heavy so I would only recommend it if you have the stomach for it. Its one of those movies that you have to watch twice, and get completely different feelings for the second round. There are some unnecessary scenes that lingered on a bit too long, but other than that its a masterpiece. I would advice looking up a content warnings list before watching if you have any bad triggers.

Day 5 - favorite Whumpee.

Today we're going two in one. Currently the show that gives me whumperflies (given that I don't watch a lot of things now) I think the umbrella academy (watched first three episodes of third season yesterday) what can I say I obviously love siblings/family whump so... yeah.

Favorite whumpee, of mine to write definitely Vivianne. Hurting the guys is fun too, but idk I just feel the most comfortable making her go through hard times lol. Also as I always say they're kinda a package deal aka hurt one, and there's emotional whump for the other two right ready right there.

Of other people to read, it's so hard to choose just one all of them are amazing but I think I just love to see @for-the-love-of-nsfwhump 's Wick suffer so much ❤️💌

WIJ Day 4: Story that gives me whumperflies

I’m gonna go with the most recent thing that’s given me a ton of whumperflies: Zach and Archer by @redstainedsocks

It’s a spy/team whump type story, and I’ve never read anything quite like it. And omg I love it so much. We have defiant whumpee, conditioned whumpee, a golden-hearted caretaker, secret whumper, espionage, betrayal, so much mental torment, and a whumpee who is finally “home”-but is he safe? (NO)

There’s a lot already out, and I’ve only read like less than half, and I’m purposely taking it slow cause I want it to last longer lol. It is so so good and an overflowing well of whumperflies. I encourage everyone to check it out or add it to your read list! (But heed the warnings)

FIREFLY!!! It’s a funky space western that’s absolutely FULL of whump (and is also hilarious)

The Legend series by Marie Lu is packed with whump, has one of my favorite whumpees Day <33
