I actually caught up on wiktt recently and I wanted to say I loved that you allowed will to be his canon gentle self even as the older character in the dynamic (referring to him tearing up pretty quickly when he has to discuss things with mike), it's honestly a refreshing choice! you didn't sacrifice will's softness or mike's certainty/boldness even though you'd expect that sacrifice of an age gap ship so I had lots of fun reading. even during the sex, will losing his composure because he can't deny his own pleasure instead of just being more stoic with mike was different and made it enjoyable too! I just loved mike so much how did you make me fall more in love

What you're describing was definitely my goal and so essential in writing that fic to make sure they still have the essence of Byler despite their circumstances being a bit different. So I'm so so glad you see that and appreciate it and it still feels like Byler at the heart of it all!!! I wanted the characters and their relationship dynamic to still feel true to them even if there are a lot of other changes in the AU. This was also one of the main reasons I chose Older Will when I wanted to do a teacher/student fic instead of Older Mike, because I felt like it would be more refreshing and interesting to lean into those characteristics within the age gap, kind of subverting expectations of the trope.
