Roy always tells it like it is :D It’s not so much Anita: He has a long-running problem with what Joël does for a living; he thinks he’s wasting his life. He said a lot harsher things to him here about his job, lulz! But it’s also a smokescreen to disguise what he’s really feeling; he will often resort to verbally lashing out at Joël when he feels threatened or angry or upset. And Joël knows this.

Lulz at least you’re honest, Angie!! But if you’re REALLY interested, the whole point of this post/chapter was to try and give a bit of an insight into how close Roy feels to Joël, even if he can’t properly express it and has to mask it with verbal abuse, and it was also a lead-up to Roy letting off steam by going to the hospital to knock Tom’s teeth out. Oh and also to show how Joël is still walking on eggshells a little bit around Anita. I can’t help you with Anita though. Half the time I don’t know myself!

They are still tip-toeing around each other and not being 100% themselves; they are still each on their best behaviour, like it’s a completely new relationship. But Joël knows full well that Anita would be hanging onto every word of his conversation with Roy, and he is shitting himself he’s going to slip up and say the name Megan (or Georgina...not that the name means anything to Anita, but she would question him over it, and we all know Joël is a terrible liar) ;=)

The name ‘Megan’ carries dreadful connotations for Anita- in fact she would say, if pressed, that Megan is at least partially to blame for she and Joël’s break up 5 years ago, and her emails to Joël part of the reason behind Anita’s drunken decision to have sex with her co-worker Danny. The words ‘amazing rack’ have no connotations for Anita at all.
I suppose as well that Joël is desperate not to let anything ruin their reconciliation....it’s been such a long time coming!! ;=)
