I LOVE your BloodyMary fan child! (She gives me cuteness aggression)
But here’s my question. How did they pick the name? Adorable name no matter what <:
Simon was responsible for choosing the name. They were both really iffy about being parents but wanted to at least try their best, so they were very hurriedly trying to figure out a name before Willow came to live with them. Simon was tentatively throwing out names related to nature, all of which Grace really liked, and so he said Simon could choose any of them. He chose Willow just because he liked the way it sounded, but also because he still feels a very deep connection to trees
Just because the Nagapon of Loria don't have magic swirly eyes, doesn't mean they can't learn other techniques! This one class in particular has become expertly trained in manipulation and the hypnotic arts. It helps to have an enchanted pendant too.
At least the outcome of failing a battle against such a class of nagapon doesn't tend to be very fatal. Just awkward knowing you'll enter under their complete control and wake up later with no idea what sort of tasks, experiments, or even games they had put you through.
Willow Grace here has unfortunately found herself in that state.
I loved working on this and am very happy with how it came out. Though I wish I'd given the nagapon a better outfit but felt rather restrained in regards with experimenting a lot.
Hmm now that I'm thinking of it, maybe I should have also have Willow's sword strewn loosely to the side, having dropped it mid fight.
Oh well, we'll say she was simply compelled to put it away as she started submitting to her adversary.
Does the kid ask for a sibling at some point ? That would be awkward for grace and simon no ?
Oh it would definitely be awkward lol. They definitely wouldn’t tell her the real reason why, either sidestepping or (if she ever got more insistent) that they’re happy with just her. and also having a sibling would mean she got less snacks (lying to your child is an option to them LMAO)
Well since no one else seems to be doing it; I’ll ask about Willow. What’s the loooore?
The lore is basically that Willow was created as an experiment with the purpose of studying human family social dynamics. This was based on the misunderstanding from some eridians (including Adrian) that all humans are ruled by instinct where children are concerned, and that introducing a baby to the biosphere would be beneficial.
Grace and Simon did not want a child. But now they have one. This is the one and only time that the science team gets this presumptuous with their experiments on human behavior.
She doesn't have a favorite per-say, but she spends a lot of time around Rocky and Adrian. Rocky inadvertantly acted as a babysitter for a lot of her childhood, but she also spends a lot of time with Rocky and Adrian's pebbles! Because of the way the aging differs between species, she grows up faster than they do.
How did they react when willow arrived ? Did the eridians just put her in a basket outside their door like a woman giving up her baby to an abbey in the 1800s or did they knock and there were just 10 eridians showing up to celebrate an alien baby shower with the baby as a present unprompted ? Did they figure out a milk substitute ? Do they know how to take care of a baby ?? What did they think that she looks so much like simon ? Would grace be upset that she didnt take a single trait from him ? Fuck i have so many questions i should draft them sorry for this mess
HELLO HELLO I will try my best to answer all these questions!!!
Grace and Simon found out about Willow a little less than a month before she was ready to be given to her parents. Rocky was the one who told them; he’d been under the impression before that Adrian’s idea to create a baby human was theoretical. In practice, Adrian saw it like introducing a kitten to a pair of cats, where typically the cats’ instincts will take over and it wouldn’t disrupt things much (this is something that I do on purpose when I write Adrian. They’re really sweet, but because they spend so much time with Grace as an animal study subject like the other animals they work with, sometimes the personhood of humans is lost on them and they have to be continuously reminded).
Because of this, they knew that she was on her way, but Grace especially was livid. (I could go into a lot of detail about why but it would make this sooo much longer, lets just say that being shoved into a traditional allomantic coparenting relationship didn’t sit well with him).
Grace knows enough about how to take care of a baby in a basic sense that he led things for the first few weeks, researching along the way. He started to bond with her around this time as he taught Simon how to do things, but he was really struggling and INCREDIBLY stressed at this point. After those first few weeks, Simon persuaded Grace to swap with him so he could have a turn and Grace could rest. Grace was like “You know we can take shorter turns?” And simon was like “Yeah but um. I want to just do it myself for a while, I’ll call if I need something,” not saying aloud that he doesn’t want Grace to have to do all that work caring for their baby (there’s a weird complex there about still seeing Grace a bit more like an angel than a person, it’s very slight now that they’ve known each other for a while). So yeah, they figure out the technical parts pretty fast! Simon especially is a very fast learner.
As for Willow’s looks, Grace isn’t upset by this at all! He doesn’t have an opinion one way or the other, he just thinks it’s kind of funny and cute. Simon is a little disappointed that she doesn’t look more like Grace, though. Rocky and Adrian love watching her traits and behaviors and picking out which parent they think she gets it from.
