Headcannon for the hobbit
Hobbits hibernate and bury themselves underground. Hobbits have tails too and the end of their tails stay above ground so they can tell when its warm enough to come back up. Also I love the headcannon that Hobbits hair turns white during the winter. So I like to think they go to sleep during the fall with their hair normal colored and during the winter it turns white while they hibernate
Fic idea connected to this headcannon
bilbo never mentions this to the dwarfs. He forces himself to not fall asleep during the quest and for the year afterwards. (Bilbo stays in the mountain, everyone is alive) Bilbo has a fight with the company about something and is too tired to stop himself from falling asleep. So he buries himself underground and falls asleep leaving the company panicking
